Forums - Sales - DmC BOMBA..ships 1 million copies, forecast lowered to 1.2 million

How much did this thing cost to make? I thought usually 500k Lifetime was enough for most of these titles to break even?

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

I don't know if we are talking about the same thing but Andy Serkis founded The Imaginarium Studios in 2011 not Giant Studios (the guys who worked on Avatar). Giant Studios is in Los Angeles so it doesn't sound cheap at all.

Ah my mistake I assumed that they were still using Andi Serkis' old mocap production crew as he worked with Ninja Theory on their last 2 games as an actor and mocap director. They used the studios in New Zealand that were used for LotR etc back then.

And I knew some of his tech was used on Avatar so I assumed they were the same. It seems that Giant Studios does a lot of game work tho and I doubt they would be much more expensive than Andy Serkis himself just because the Avatar crew also used the same studio. Ninja Theory have a long history of mocaping their games, in fact the quality of their mocap is basically their calling card and Andy Serkis and his crew was a big part of that. I guess they aren't working together anymore as like you said Andy has his new production company that is developing that Animal Farm film that he is also directing. But still I don't see how Giant Studios would be a lot more expensive than what they have been doing before, the actors were probably already in LA so that would save flying them to NZ.

Well Giant Studios is located in LA and Ninja Theory in London so I guess they fly a crew to film the mocap and a big Hollywood mocap studio on LA must not be cheap, everything on Hollywood is expensive.

^ This up here. I don't want to start another discussion but people don't play GOW for its combat mechanics, there is not comparison with DMC.

They dont O_o, Why then is like 80% of the game based around fighting people??

No they don't. Don't get me wrong I love GOW but I love it for its grand adventure cinematic epiness, its story, presetation and characters, the combat is quite shallow I can win most fights pressing the triangle button and you can't do that on DMC3/4 those are harder games that push you to use the complex combat mechanics to win the game, story comes second in DMC is all about gameplay thats why there's those DMC True Style tournaments I don't think GOW has anything like a True style Tournament.

I think this is in line with industry trends as well as decreasing popularity in single player/hack and slash games.
If anything, this game would have done even worse if it was another DMC4 type of game, without the all the Dante contraversy.

At this rate, in a couple of years we are looking at Resident Evil VS DMC Xbox Live arcade top-down shooter lol.

I agree.

Well on the new DmC you cant spam 1 button to win the game too, plus you have to mix up styles to win.

Your are wrong again, I'm so sorry dude.

Yep, one hand and one button on Son of Sparda mode, now spin it and say that was just the demo.

Except that was just the demo and very early in the game. Show me a video of someone button spamming in the full game and at a later stage and we will talk.

I have played the full game i own the full game and im telling you you wont button spam like that in the full game. My opinion on this is worth more then yours as you have not even played the full game to back up what your saying unlike me.

It must be embarrassing to be so wrong all the time, It doesn't matter if is very early on the game go and play DMC3 in very hard mode (which is Son of Sparda in DmC) and try to beat the very first level, I'm going to say it again just the FIRST LEVEL (#1) with one hand and one button.

Like the million of DMC fans over the world we won't buy this game, that demo was enough to confirm our fears, a casualised dumbed down Devil May Cry for the GOW audience. Those tears taste so good.

^  I won't be crying I'll be busy playing Metal Gear Rising and GOW Ascension and after DmC's poor sales Capcom only has 2 choices: Bring back Coke Classic and release DMC5 or kill the franchise, there's still a chance that that crazy, pizza loving, half-demon, half human comes back and if not well we still have all the memories and 3 games (DMC2 does not exist in my book).

Another thing: I hate the new Vergil, he is so unlikable I watched a video where he shoots a fetus in its womb and after his mother realize it he then shoots her, wow... and he still has the white hair but is his whole character the problem.

People who bought the full game probably liked it already and liked the demo too. Let's do a list based on what I read and watch on the web about the full game:

-Still too easy just like the demo

-Style rank system is broken (based on damage and not complex spectacular combos) just like the demo

-30 FPS just like the demo

-No lock on button just like the demo

-Dialogue is horrible, I generally don't complain about dialogue in a DMC game because those games are all about gameplay but Ninja Theory kept saying how they want to make art out of video games and Capcom hired them because they did a great job with Enslaved story (which is true but they did not write it, Alex Garland did) and wanted the same quality writing in the new DmC. The final product is a rip-off of "They Live" with a lot of "Fuck you" in it, its so damn juvenile.

-I still don't like the new characters I do like Mundus thought he is more likable than the heroes

I would be dumb to buy a game when I hated the demo and if the demo is "broken" like you said then don't release it until is properly done, thats another failure on NT's part.

I would've purchased the game had they not changed the look (and feel) of the game . Damn shame that they did. It's an enjoyable game on its own, but it's just not what Devil May Cry was. IMO, it never needed a reboot.

All of this, of course, is just my opinion.

Skyrim 100%'d. Dark Souls 100%'d.
Dark Souls > Skyrim.
Halo 4 is the best damn FPS since Halo 3.
Proud pre-orderer of 2 PS4's and an Xbox One.

Currently Playing: Dark Souls II, South Park
Playstation 4: MGS V GZ, Killzone: Shadow Fall, NBA 2k14.

Been playing for a couple of days, a friend of mine lend me his copy because he doesn't like it.

While the game is good and solid, it doesn't feel like a DMC game, they changed everything (and please people, stop saying it's because the hair) and it feels like another game but with character names and some winks to the original franchise.
The feel I have while playing this game is the same when I played Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.

I can see why some people try to encourage to buy this game, because its good (nothing groundbreaking, but its fun) but I can understand too why the fans do not want this game.

3DS FC :  4339 - 3326 - 7693. Add me :) Nickname Tin

Woo, I have to wonder if this game will even crack a million before it sinks into the abyss.

Third week sales aren't going to look very pretty either, it seems.

546,091 - first week.
129,818 - second week.
And, just US sales so far, 26,836 for the US so far. I'm thinking sub-100k world, but we'll know when the others go up...

So 702,745 so far...

Yikes!
