Forums - Sony - PlayStation 4 Should Focus on Innovation, Not Power

Why not focus on both?

not mutually exclusive. power can enable innovation.

Depends. I think trying to focus too much on innovation can ultimately lead to gimmicks for the sake of being different. Sometimes simple and straight forward really is the best route to take.

I feel that the crazy, revolutionary, innovative game consoles are now Nintendo's job. Sony doesn't have enough money to go crazy innovative and run that risk of failure. They need to release another PS3 just with upgraded graphics. I buy Sony's consoles for 3rd party support and for Sony's great exclusives, not for innovation.

"When PlayStation 2 was released onto the world back in 2000, it captured the worlds imagination not because of its power, but because of its revolutionary features."

No. It captured the world's imagination because it had teh gamez. That's the reason.

I honestly don't care about controller "innovation". People who want that can buy a Wii U or a Kinect. I want a system that innovates in terms of software, that lets the games themselves shine, not that forces developers into a new format. Mouse+keyboard isn't broken, standard controllers are not broken. They're still around because they're damn good at what they do, which is allow players to interface with videogames. It bloody works and it works well. I want a system that is a canvas for traditional videogames. That's what I hope the PS4 ends up being.

^ Toy Story like graphics is what captured our imagination pokoko. Your being senile

DVD -> Bluray
Digital audio -> hdmi
Easy internet connection? BS. That only came with the PS3

That's a really, really bad article. We need power with the next console BUT we also need innovation. More power gives you more room to innovate.

A highly powered console enables developers to make more innovative games.

It's all about the games.

I don't think that would be a good idea. I don't think that's Sony's strong point. They're good at refining and polishing things, but innovation? Not so much.

I don't agree with either approach. Just focus on games.
