To Kowen:

Because people already get used to the disappointment of PSV+PSP. Now we are focusing on Wii U doom, not PSV doom anymore. Haha....

I think people are oversestimating the loss.  I think the street expecting a loss.

The loss is not bad because Sony go back to operation profit... so they stays on track for full-year operating profit.

The latest year are really bad... so this loss is not that bad.

Sony presents financials on a consolidated basis, meaning it shows revenue and expenses for companies as if they owned 100% , then pull out the net effect of the portions it doesn't really own. Sony the consoidated presentation was profitable, but Sony the actual company lost 10.8 billion Yen during the 3rd quarter. Hence the outlook for the year in its entirety remained the same, despite Yen depreciation.

The increase in sales for Sony came not from having actually sold more of something, but from how they incorporated Sony Mobile's sales differently this year. Whereas last year, Sony Mobile was accounted under Equity Method (pro rata share of sales reported), this year Sony is showing the whole piece. Hence the statement:
"On a pro forma basis, had Sony Mobile been fully consolidated in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year, consolidated sales would have remained essentially flat."

Sony's financial conditions in fact went downhill in this all important Holiday quarter. More Debt, Less Equity as a result of the net loss.

Yes, most of the Japanese companies are having favorable exchange rates, but still accumulating more debt and less sales. If the exchange rates all of a sudden reversed then they would not have much breathing room to make a profit.

I'm actually shocked by these results. One would of thought with current exchange rates, they would of easily posted a profit this quarter. I mean Nintendo posted 450 million net profit and Sony 115 million loss, how come? I'm at a loss of words here. Furthermore, posting a 6 million profit for the gaming division is simply disappointing and troubling. Once PS4 hits, their gaming division will post losses once more. I don't know what to take from this.

Sony is a much bigger, much more diverse and much more troubled company then Nintendo.  Most of it's revenue is electornics... where yen or not sony is getting killed because electronics haved ALWAYS been low profit margin and the Korean Companies are undercutting them.

surprised nobody has picked up on the PSv + PSP forecast drop... thats really bad.

What was the olad and what is the new forecast?

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

70.2+6.8 = 77M. So IDC is correct on the numbers, but just overlook it includes PS2. How stupid this company is.

but they also predict a drop in hardware sales across the board from previous estimates.  the only reason that stays the same is due to the building sale.

thats bad.

The ~$600m is to be posted in Q4... I'm just saying what the news about Q3 are saying... the company go back to operation profit.

It's not bad... even stocks are up after hours (well I don't know what means after hours).

Edit - After Hours: 16.26 +0.44 (2.78%)

Yes I know :) However, Panasonic was arguably in a worse position than Sony and still posted profits of over 660 million last quarter. I mean clearly there have not been enough cost cutting measures implemented by Sony. Although some people are celbrating Sony's comeback by forecasting a full year-end profit, it will haven done so by selling 2 billion in assets (chemical + NYC building), not something to boast about.

I really have no idea what softwares can save Vita. In my opinion, PSV arleady had many decent softwares, like Uncharted, AC, COD, Resistance, Mortal Kombat, Gravity Rush, MGS HD and so on. If these software didn't work, what will work for Vita?
