I don't know about you lot, but i see both potentially tapping into a new market for gaming. They are both very portable and very cheap ($99 each) and are backed up by Android's widening selection of games (many with controller support already). Obviously, they are no replacement to the traditional consoles from Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft but it's great for those who like gaming but without much of the expense or space needed for consoles or even those with limited time to game. i'm a big gamer and am interested in these and i don't why, but maybe it's the way forward for gaming alongside cloud based services like Onlive as well as mobile phones and tablets. 

Either few of us know about this, or the rumours of the next playstation and xbox are just swallowing all attention for the next few months

OUYA yes, gamestick and other similar devices, no.

OUYA simply because it will be cheap and so far it seems like it will include a solid Android base as well. If it has good inter-connectivity to my phone, I'm buying one.

I might buy an Ouya as a $99 emulating device. But there's no way I'll ever pay any money for apps. I'll just continue to receive them from outside of the store :D

The thing is, there's no market for it. The android/app store gaming is popular because the devices are easy to use for the mainstream market. This looks like more complicated ways to play those same types of games.

I think the Ouya can, while the big console news is swallowing it up right now, I still hear people on gaming sites discussing it once in a while, I think a lot of people are interested. Meanwhile the first time I heard people talk about the Gamestick after it was introduced....is now. I'm not ruling the gamestick out yet, but they need to build interest for people to choose it over the Ouya.

How are all the touch-based games (aka 140% of them) going to work on the Ouya? Outside of emulators and a few shooters I don't see any Android games that would fit the Ouya...

People play Android games because they are already on their smartphone. As a result the market is HUGE! These systems however are dedicated gaming devices that can only do what your phone, tablet, and possibly next gen systems can do. They will only sell a couple million and software sales will be even worse. Then factor in that smartphones keep getting smarter. Within a few years these systems will not be able to play new games and as a result will become useless. Oh and next gen smartphones have TV out so yeah, Ouya and other android gaming systems are doomed.

My guess is Ouya will grow it's own Niche base but someone will have to come out with a Android console that also doubles as a full Android tablet (best of both worlds) and can use both screens (TV/Tablet) simultaneosly like WiiU.

I think such a device will be a huge home run and would be massively back buy both tablet and console developers. Price wouldn't even be an issue as we're all happy to drop good $$ for a good tablet, if that tablet also works as a good home console (plus portable gaming system), that's just a bonus and adds extra value.

No, dedicated, handheld gaming devices are going to diappear from the market within a few short years. Its going backwards and can be seen almost like a Gameboy with an internet connection and more shallow games.
