I agree with you not NEEDING to play Ghost of Sparta but at the same time... (Ghost of Sparta spoilers below, but come on, its been 3 years just read it).

You freaking get to understand that Zeus is litterary your father and the whole Son-killing-Father theme is something thats common in Greek mythos (Just look at Zeus and Cronos). Its the whole "marked warrior" prophecy, the prophecy that the king of gods will fall to a marked warrior. Add that to the fact that Zeus basically kills Kratos' mother (or err makes her into a giant monster for telling Kratos that Zeus is his father which forces Kratos to kill her) and that Ares/Athena are tasked to take away the "marked warrior" which actually is Kratos but they accidentally took his brother. And after all of that, they offer to take away his memories but he doesnt want to forget what they have done to him. Kratos killing Thanatos essientally makes him the God of Death and as Zeus in cameo puts it "The destroyer of both worlds".

So yeah, it does add rather much.

I think GOW1 challenges are the hardest because you have to do them in 1 sitting.   I remember the first time I was playing the challeges in my PS2, and I was like "I will continue tomorrow"......and the next day, I turned on my PS2 and then I was like WTF?!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!  But still I managed to do them all....again lol

i would say that getting plat in GOW games is quite easy, which I think is a good thing because trophy whores would buy the game just for the easy plat, and the fact you have a great game to play.  I platinumed Ghost of Sparta and Chains of Olympus in 1 day LMAO! XD

You are right... the first was complicated... the plat is easy just the challenges are a little harder.

Without Ghost of Sparta I actually believed Zeus was right to kill Kratos. After ghost of sparta and all the rest of the things leading into part two I can understand why Kratos was alienated by the Olympians and eventually conspired against.

Yeah well without GoS: Isnt the story like "Kratos opend the box and everyone got corrupt?"
Its kind of a huge deus ex machina at the end of GoW3, like.. through GoS atleast you can see the corruption happening or hell its even justifiable considering the prophecy that drives zeus and the rage that Kratos has is even mulitiplied beyond that of his Daughter and Wife (Which are still a big deal).

So yeah, it adds a lot and anyone who feels Kratos and GoW is a one-dimensional character/story -> really should seek to look into it further. Im sure Ascension will add even more so yeah, SSM & Ready @Dawn are really working hard to make it so.

Hell just check out my topic on Kratos possibly being Jesus XD
