Forums - Sony - Will the PS4 be named the PS4?? Or something else entirely?

What will the "PS4" be named?

The Playstation 4 obviously. 18 64.29%

The Playstation *Title* (maybe Orbis) 9 32.14%

Something else entirely 1 3.57%

Total:28

With the recent announcement of a Febuary 20th revealing of something, that is almost certainly the PS4, I have one question.

Will it be called the Playstation 4, or will it be called something else?

Sony seems to be moving towards individual titles for their newer consoles, and moving away from numbering them... The PSPGo and the PSVita being the two latest examples, so what is the likeliness of Sony naming their new Console the Playstation *Title* or something completely different?

Your thoughts?

EDIT: I do not think it will be called the Playstation 4, unless they're worried about consumers misunderstanding it as not a new 'home' console, but Sony's base seems mostly made up of 'aware' consumers, so I doubt this will really cause a difference in the ultimate decision.

My thoughts are that if you simply wait till February 20th then you'll know.

And my thoughts are that you do not understand the tight connection between video game forums and speculation.

"And my thoughts are that you do not understand the tight connection between video game forums and speculation."

This has already been done multiple times. There is no reason to waste anytime speculating when you'll know for a fact in a mere 20 days.

Don't post in a speculation thread if you're morally opposed to speculation lol You're arguing with the very essence of why the forum even exists.

To me is has to be Playstation 4. That name brand recognition is still strong and still clear cut distinction as a new system. If you go a new naming convention then really need to make massive marketing push. Also, if you do not go "4" then I feel should drop Playstation as well, because a Playstation Omni could be confusing for people. I know that seems silly, but I know so many people that find "3DS" and WiiU" confusing as distinction from previous systems.

I agree here, but it seems to me that Nintendo systems are mostly targeted towards a younger/ more casual audience who would naturally be less aware of gaming news, hence the confusion... Bu I see Sony consumers being more aware of the naming, and therefore less confused. Just a thought tho. :P

There's a chance they will avoid PS"4" because 4 is an unlucky number in Asia, but really there aren't many people THAT seriously superstitious. The X in Xbox was given as a similar reasoning for it's failure in Japan but to be perfectly honest it was more just an excuse to shun a FOREIGN product.

I simply feel Playstation 4 requires only marketing promoting it, not clarifying what it is.  People get numerical increases.  That's a 3, this is a 4.  Whereas when you have names you have to explain "This is the Playstation Power, it is the new Sony home video game console and successor to the Playstation 3" or even worse "This is the Sony Ion, it is basically a new Playstation system".   Removing those hurdles makes it much easier for millions (and not just casuals) to go "oh, I know what that is!" and move quickly to evaluating buying it.

Oh I agree haha howver I just see them going the opposite route, seems to be what they're doing now in regards to naming haha
