Forums - Gaming - Android Crushes Competition in Q4 2012 (and overall)

According to a report out of Strategy Analytics, Android Q4 marketshare showed a 38% growth over last year’s, totaling at a 70.1% worldwide domination. Last year, during this same time, Android held a respectable 51.3%, followed by Apple’s iOS at just 23.6%. Now, Apple has dropped just a hair to 22% evenly, while Android grows by leaps and bounds, shipped on roughly 152.1 million devices in three months.

As for any company that decides to go up against two corporations that hold 92% of the worldwide smartphone market, things are not looking bright.

Looks like all those nice articles regarding WP are kinda meh. From this it looks like Android is still gaining marketshare every year and the largest gains come from "others".

Both Android and iOS had a great jump from 2011. Nice to see.

I guess those crappy Android Tabelts for $79 at Goodwill must be helping......

Stop hating and start playing.

They're not smartphones.

But yes eventually every phone under $100 will be Android.

I can't complain about my Galaxy SII, so...good for them I guess^^

If only they could turn Android into a decent desktop OS and market it well.

^ tablets? This is a smartphone report not an overall mobile devices report. Apple still owns the tablet market by a large margin I believe.

Unless you count the iPhone 4S ($99)  or 4 ($50 or free).

Over time ChromeOS will merge with Android and be just that. Its not there yet... but its getting there.

That's quite impressive. Shows that open platform is the way to go if you want to get market share.

If you want profits though...that's a different story. Talk to Google how much they have made on this huge Android success in terms of device sales revenue and store app sales.

Comparing the last financial reports:
Last quarter Apple made 30 billion revenue on iPhone alone (not counting ipad and mac revenue).
Google made "up to" 800 million revenue on Android. They don't give the exact number.

I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft made more money on Android than Google by licensing patents. I'm actually pretty sure they did.
