"We have no plans for any pricing announcements on PS3," a Sony representative told GamePro in an email on Tuesday. "What you are hearing is purely rumor and speculation."

Rumors of a PS3 price drop to $299 surfaced on Monday in connection with the newly confirmed white PS3.

According to multiple (and some hokey) reports, the $299 PS3 news stems from "several posters at SlickDeals.net," something a website administrator later clarified to just one vague and dated reference on an unrelated thread."

Yeah that really sucks, it would of been awesome.

Maybe there will be one, around the time GTA4 comes out. 360 will probably do a price drop then, so i can see sony following suit.

Sony denied the 60 gig price-cut, the intro of the 80 gig, the intro of the 40 gig. Not much to see here. It's PR SOP to make denials about business strategies. Every company does it.

We'll see in a few days, although I'm leaning to this is not true. But, it's not outside the realm of impossibility. Sony has clearly shown that they are willing to lose some money in the gaming division as long as its other divisions keep the company going.

I wonder why people have a desire to start new "360 price cut" or "PS3 price cut" threads every day. Maybe because they were too expensive from the start?

I really think the White and Dual Shock 3 and price cut will all roll out right around GTAIV, in that time period, just like they did with Dynasty Warriors 6 in Japan, which is a huge title there.

Ok, so who's surprised at Sony denying this?

Should I get one of those before they release the cheap one? Or is this just a clearance of the old consoles before they release new, better consoles? HELP!

Recent PS3 Owner - Shit! I better rush this puppy back to the store so's I can by it fer cheaper next week!

Hopeful PS3 Owner - Whew! I was gonna buy a PS3 when I got paid Friday. Now I know to wait a few days/weeks/months to save the that money.

Store Owner - Sonuvabitch! I just paid for two shipments of PS3s!
