not impressed no B/C and 4gb of ram compared to what is being said for MS next console, idc if its faster ram ps3 had faster ram this gen look how multiplats turn out

it did??

i didn't know that

and what do you think MS is going to use all that ram on?

ps3 has xdr for its cpu compared to 360s unifided 512mb gddr3

devs are going to use all that ram they way they did this gen better draw distance fps AA and texture resulotion

once next gen goes on i can imagane that MS caan cut down its OS usage from its current 3gb, it has been done before with this gen

you really think the devs will do this?

well what if Sony implemented something that made devs make sure that anything released on it's platform has to be identical to the other console versions? pretty much resulting in only MS 1st party studios utilising that extra ram(or any of the other beefy innards the 720 has over PS4)?

Edit: i'm under the impression that Next Gen is going to be more like this gen when it comes to devs and multiplat games.

Also, there is no way microsoft will use DDR3 memory only. They will most likely have DDR3 or 4 for system and GDDR5 for GPU.

why would microsoft go from a unified ram structure (which they were applauded for by many devs throughout this gen) to a dedicated ram structure?

If Sony tried doing that 3rd parties would completly abandon them.

I do agree though with BHR though it would be a pretty huge advantage for MS having 8 GB of RAM compared to PS4s 4 gb.  The real question is if MS will have a worse GPU in the nextbox though, as some rumors are starting to say.  If so next gen could be veeeeeery interesting.  Both consoles would have a distinct advantage over the other in different areas, which could lead to games being quite a bit different on each console.

Lets do a theoretical current retail parts price summary for this imaginary console:

AMD 8 core cpu = ~$150
7970m = $300
4GB DDR3 memory = ~$40 (GDDR5 = DDR3 tuned differently)
Motherboard = ~$50
120 GB SSD drive = ~$100
Bluray drive= ~$40
Controller, ports, PSU, cables, packaging=~$100

So like $800 dollars worth of retail parts. Maybe they are able to get down to 500 dollars with direct OEM discounts and sell it for $399?

no SSD and it will be this fall so the prices will be down a little bit.  They could sell at $400 for regular and $500 for premium at near cost or maybe even a little profit.

yea i thought about that

BUT.. what if the PS4 takes off? they will have no choice

The PS4 IS GOING to take off if it launches at that $399 price point  ESPECIALLY if the 720 is NOT cheaper than the PS4

also PS4 is supposed to be pretty close in power to the 720 right? yea they won't have a choice. Sony probably wouldn't even have to do it. The devs would just make them identical to each other like they did this gen

there would probably be only a handful of 3rd party devs who would utilise that extra ram

both will have a healthy install base and 3rd parties will definitely be more inclined to go with WiiU and PS4 if they're closer than nextbox and PS4.  I think PS4 will be in the middle but close enough to nextbox that the games will look mostly similar.  Uncharted, GoW, and Killzone will look amazing and maybe Halo 5 will look better but both will simply be stunning to most.  Maybe if you look at draw distances and enemies on screen and stuff you will be able to tell the power but did PS2 look bad compared to Xbox?  No because they were close enough that people didn't care to choose the system based on it.  It will come down to exclusives and we know WiiU and PS4 will have them.  Xbox we'll have to see if they can bring something other than Halo, Gears, and Forza.

No SSD and the CPU/GPU are in an APU thus a lot less than the $450 total price you have there.
