My hope for this year is for the 360 to be ahead of the PS3 until the nextbox is released and better yet both of the next generation consoles. Then I can comfortably give 2nd place to them officially.

Whilst in the real world whatever console actually ends up selling the most overall is officially above the one that sells less. #MindBlown

So, you'd prefer the ps3 to cross the finish line last and end up a guy looking to his past wondering what could have been?!?

Wow all these "analogies" are not only pretty pathetic but just plain incorrect to begin with anyway. There is no "finish line", wether you like it or not in the real world whatever console actually ends up selling the most overall is officially above the one that sells less.

Over a 2.5 million gap between VGchartz figure and the shipped as at 31/12/12. Hard to believe 2.5 million on store shelves or sitting in storage.

The gap is 2.3 million.

How much of that came from their entertainement division, other than zero of coarse lol...

I love the "Continued leadership in console market" part. They are TRYING, boy are they TRYING...what can I say... keep TRYING lol.

? The Gaming division (EDD) made 600 million USD profit. It is very healthy actually.

Oh yeah? The entertainment division managed to generate just 2% profits on it's revenue. Far below the overall profit/revenue average for the company. I wonder what product is holding them back? Hmmm... (That's why that forbes columnist predicted the downfall of the xbox) It's not doing well at all....

The "xbox business" surprisingly has not payed off for microsoft. I would have thought by this time microsoft would be in a better position, but it is not. It's very hard to pick winners and losers among Sony/ms/nintendo, considering the fact that none of them are doing very well. But it's microsoft has ALWAYS tried to obscure the lackluster gaming division, now referred to as the "entertainment blah blah."

They've been trying to whitewash poor numbers for years now, that's just fact. If you don't know that, you're fuckin stupid lol... No offense there, microsoft fan.

Lack luster quarter for Microsoft and no growth in the key areas that it needs to have it in.

No surface numbers (which is one of those important growth areas as PC sales continue to slow) only means that the sales are not that well, given Apple shipped some 22+ million ipads. Only going to get worse with the surface pro. That 8 billion dollar payout for Skype is looking like it was not worth it, I'm sure with that kind of money, they could have created something in house. Its investment in Nook turned out to be disaster.

I think the purchase of Skype was more to kill the competition because Microsoft already have something similar inhouse.

If that is true, that's not a good thing. Very anti-competative :/

Then nextbox is being built and there still making a profit. Actually it is doing pretty good. Xbox has been successful. Zune however, no. 360 has done great, sorry but you have no clue what your talking about. The division has not done that great but that includes products that failed. 360 has picked up the slack most of that time. So sorry your so mad.

I live near chicago. Funny all my friends have grown up and bought a 360. LOL

Surface deserves better sales. It's completely awesome.

Windows phones are doing much better than previous quarters. Hopefully they can continue selling well.

:)

It's just that simple.

5.9 isnt pessimistic.  Its realistic and shows that the 360 is dong better than this site thinks.

circa 5.0m would have been realistic and accurate if we believe the numbers here are spot on.

It also proves that the PS3 did infact pass the 360. considering those predictions made a while back ended up being correct

So the PS3 is most likely undertracked even more ;)

No the predictions were estimates and they were never declared correct by Sony so it's pretty certain the PS3 didn't outship the 360 yet.  Saying the PS3 is undertracked or overtracked right now is just guessing as you have no evidence until we get shipment figures from Sony.  It's highly unlikely the PS3 shipments to increase YOY though, even if they channel stuffed.

The only thing this does prove is we are undertracking the 360 at the moment, obviously the exact amount is up for debate but it's somewhere between 300k - 1 million.

What do you mean? they were basically 100% correct with microsofts shipments, why wouldn't they be with sony's shipments

And why would sony reveal their figures early?

Maybe because their predicted Sony shipments were riiculous to start with while the 360 shipment was reasonable.  I'll happily bet with you that their figures are wrong if you put such faith in them.

Ok it's a bet

I'm just saying, they predicted microsofts shipments right, so why would they be wrong with sony's shipments? :)

Thats a wierd yet somewhat reasonable logic.

Yay!!!

Skype is going to be integrated into Lync/outlook.

Saying Skype is a waste of money is pretty ignorant on his part.   Skype will be a pretty big deal in the future.  But TW will only downplay where MS are concerned so its no surprise.

It's rumoured that Skype will be replacing Xbox Live chat: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/386889/microsoft-to-replace-xbox-live-voice-chat-with-skype/
