Wow, IDC's figure of 76.0 million by end of 2012 was pretty close.

That means the PS3 only has to have shipped a record 8-9 million in one quarter in a slow year to make their PS3 figure of 77.0 million shipped accurate haha...

Me thinks they are still way off. Sony didn't release shipment figures for PS3 last quarter, and if they don't again this quarter, me thinks this means they not doing so good. Me. Me. ME!

They didn't for the entire past year when they were outshipping 360 and Wii combined. I wouldn't be surprised to see that not changing. However, PS2 shipments have almost stopped so PS3 should account for the vast majority.

Wait, if what you just said is true (that Sony hasn't released any PS3 shipment figures for the past year), how do we know the PS3 has been outshipping the 360 all of 2012? And outshipping 360 + Wii combined? I find that quite a stretch. 360 did outship/outsell it in 2011 after all.

Rough guess about 500k-700k undertracked?

Im going to hazard another guess that PS3 will be over and we will be exactly back to where we were before.

The gen is almost over so doesn't really matter anymore but it is good to see the 360 do better then this website credits it as doing.

Hahaha, no, just no.

They did release ps3 shipments.  They just lumped them together with ps2 shipments too.  The lastest ps3 shipments is the 70 million they announced as of november 1st or somewhere around there.  And MS announced 70 million shipped in late september, so the 360 and ps3 are pretty close.  I'm thinking sony shipped 6.0-6.5 million for the quarter putting it even closer to the 360 and likely undertracked by a little too.

No what?

The 360 is quite clearly undertracked

There is no exactly quarter number but PS3 shipped 70 million at November 4th, 2012... that's put 6.1 million for the fiscal year (April to October) and 8 million for the year.

The Microsoft and Nintendo had for the year (Jan to September):

360: 4.2 million
Wii: 2.2 million

We are talking about 6.4 million combined (Wii + 360 as of September 2012) and 8 million (PS3 as of October 2012).

PS3 needs ship more 2 million in November and December to reach 10 million in the year... the most problable is near 13 million shipped this year.

So the 360 is not undertracked? Even though the data says so?

Yay!!!

The 360 is quite clearly undertracked

1. The 360 is probably undertracked to some degree, just not to the ridiculous figure of 500,000-700,000.

2. The PS3 is not likely to be overtracked at all given all the numbers we already know and there is even the chance that it could be undertracked as well.

3. There is no realistic way that for this year the 360 and PS3 have sold roughly the same and we are "exactly back to where we were before" as the original posted stated.

4. Yet another poster who is a fan of a certain console, which is eventually going to get overtaken trying to claim "it doesn't matter anymore because the gen is nearly over" *rollseyes*

I think he was refering to the PS3 being over part.  Could be wrong, though.

Quite high 360 numbers, though 28% down YoY. Let's hope the rest of the industry stays at least within 5% of that so that the drop off is not too bad.

Someone is very defensive. Have a look at the numbers again. LOL "ROLLS EYES"
