Remember guys, MS might go the "financing" route where you pay a down payment and then pay monthly payments afterwards, with interest offcourse.

or the "cell phone plan" route where you pay for 2 years of Live and thereby you get lower monthly payments

i hope they do. i hope sony does too.  as i'm likely to buy whatever "service plan" they have anyways i'd love for them to knock a few bucks off of the initial purchase as a reward to me for being such a balls deep customer.  :P

I refuse to believe PS4 will launch first.

didn't forza 4 launch a year after GT5 and Forza horizon this year?  You sig is a worthless comparison.  If it's in response to the other one about Uncharted and Gears I would point out those games launched mere weeks apart so the comparison is much more apt.

Back on topic Sony will not make a tablet controller standard.  They will stick to their basic controller (with some minor improvements like triggers, larger size, and Vita like Dpad) and put it all into the power of the console.  I won't say it'll be "x times as powerful as WiiU" but I remember a breakdown where it was found that, given the prices Sony will get parts at, they can do 1080p 60fps with 4gb RAM and sell the system at $400 at close to cost.  I think their big selling points will be exclusives (like with every PS console) and Gaikai/PS+ (these will be intertwined somehow).  It will be a media hub and they will cut out BC to cut costs.  I like that idea of a dongle with the cell inside to give BC as I would purchase that in a heartbeat to avoid having 2 boxes under the TV (small college living space here).

??? Forza 2 was in 2007 and Forza 3 launched 1 year before GT5....don't see your point. Were talking hardware here.

I was talking about your sig which includes 4 and Horizon.

"Baird employee Colin Sebastian..."
so you spent a few hours at CES and suddenly you are an "analyst" by stating all the obvious things everybody already knows?

this, i didn't see anything in the article about a rumor, I just heard speculation no different than what i hear in the threads around here.

499 will be the cheapest version. Factor in inflation 399 (2006)=449 (2013) and their has to be a decent gap between this gen en next gen in terms of pricing. They don't have to be bought by everyone right of the bat.

If 399 becomes the price, next gen will actually become cheaper then when Xbox 360 launched.

It has to be cheaper than last generation. The market conditions and economy has changed. Also if things were in line with inflation. Games would cost $100 plus DLC on top.

Let's take a look at the launch prices of their latest cards

8800 GTX_  $599  >>> GTX 280_ $650 >>> GTX 480_ $499  >>> GTX 580_ $499  >>> GTX 680_ $499

Do you know what happened from the GTX280 to the GTX480? AMD was competitive again and Nvidia was forced to lower their prices.

If Msoft or Sony weren't competing, I'd agree that the price would be higher, but since they are competing, they will try to lower their price as much as possible. That' swhy inflation is not relevant in this discussion.

I'm not factoring in competative tactics, because pricing could go anywhere. I'm just using inflation to extrapolate new pricing. 399 doesn't make sense, it's still a posibility, however that console at 399 doesn't make a big jump (compared to last gen). Pricing en power are correlated, due to Moore's Law.

So if 399 is true it will be a relative weak console.

Not necessarily. With GPU, memory and other components being cheaper, the console can be more powerful for the same money. I can perfectly be that the 8GB of rumored RAM for the nextbox will cost them the same or less than the 512 MB of the original Xbox360.

Besides, we don't know the real cost ofthe consoles or how much money are MSoft and Sony willing to lose.

Same money buys better parts after 7 years. That means that the power will increase absolutely.
Same money in 2006 is less worth in 2013. That means that the power will be increased (but in a slightly less significant way).

If 8GB of RAM costs less than 512MB than Microsoft doesn't invest enough = Relative poor increase
If 8GB of RAM costs the same compared to 512MB than Microsoft invests the same = Equal power increase
If 8GB of RAM costs more then 512MB than Microsoft invest more = Relative good increase

Ask an old person "How much a bread costs at a bakery" EDIT: back in the day ofcourse. Then go to the bakery and try to get the same deal.

Here's an article about inflation and console prices.

Another day, another prediction concerning the next-gen console launch announcements. This time it’s print publication Game Informer, which believes we’ll see “special Apple-style press conferences” held by Sony and Microsoft around GDC in March.

Videogamer has plundered the pages of US publication Game Informer for details of when the magazine believes we can expect next-gen console announcements.

“We hear that both Sony and Microsoft are targeting special Apple-style press conferences to unveil their platforms near the Game Developers Conference in late March,” the magazine is said to report in its February 2013 issue.

“E3 in June may be the industry’s biggest event, but both companies want to give their systems their own limelight.”

This falls broadly in-line with the prediction made by Baird analyst Colin Sebastian, who yesterday suggested in an investor email that, “E3 2013 will be the most important game conference since Y2K,” and that “we continue to expect both Sony and Microsoft to host dedicated events before E3 to announce their new platforms.”

The analyst also suggested that the next-gen consoles could cost around $400 upon release.

Thanks Dragon246, for the GI tip.

$399 for the premium package and $299 for the model with lower capacity harddrive, could be really great.

Yeah those are reasonable pricing options (in theory).

I don't care what I have 2 pay just give me my PS4!
