Forums - Sales - Nintendo: Wii U Sales Beat Predecessor

Ah, the inevitable corporate ritual and the art of spinning.

Even as a Nintendo fan and shareholder, I got a chuckle out of that headline.  If we charted HW and SW by revenue generation, then Wii's domination most likely would be succeeded by PS3.  At least they are starting to pay more attention to the Media.  No media, no hype.

I'm all for Nintendo paying attention to the outside world.  God knows they need to, especially right now.

All the Ninty fans and critics hold all the solutions for Ninty's problems...if only they'd listen.

What they need to focus on is the games. Forget all about spinning the numbers to make it seem likes it's beating the Wii and just focus on teh gamez.
I know that was a totally groundbreaking idea, nobody steal it from me! (But seriously, get on that.)

They made more revenue selling their 300+ dollar console than they did selling their 250 dollar console. Imagine that.

The PR machine no matter what corporation it is always strongest when its sales are at its weakest. Expect to hear more in the future.

Edit: At least in terms of media articles.

Too bad no one can track digital sales.  I wonder how much money Nintendo made off the VC/WiiWare on Wii and recently the indie/smaller budget games on Wii U and 3DS eshops.

3DS 2013 software lineup:  I think they hear ya.

Wii U 2013 software lineup:  I'm still hopeful of somewhat of a surprise.  Let's just hope it's not "Surprise! We got nothing more!"

The problem is that the investors don't care about the games.  Case in point, when Nintendo revealed that it got both MH3G and MH4, stocks went down.  Nintendo always focuses on the games but it needs to show numbers so that it will continue to have the financing it needs to go forward.  I also don't think the PR market uses to many world renowned game developers that their efforts delay and prevent the release of new games.  I really don't get the relationship between the PR spin and the "gamez".

Even if the investors don't care about games, they'll care about the profits those games generate.

Not really, in many ways they don't look at it that way.  They're so used to thing like the Iphone making huge profits even without the appstore that they expect everything to be the same as it.  I will repeat, the announcment of Nintendo getting exclusive rights to MH3G and MH4 was small news for investors and caused the stock price to drop.  They follow games to know which will have a huge impact and generate sales and drive the platform forward.  All they care about is the big news that revenues incresed, or profit margin is 11% higher ect...

I come back to my original point and ask, what does the PR spin have to do with the games?  It doesn't delay it or anything.  It doesn't reduce the number of games coming out, what is the difference whether they put their PR spin or not?
