That Archos device looks like crap, and will likely have very poor build quality if their last one is any indication. The Razer Edge looks the most exciting to me, aside from the obvious Steambox, but I would probably never buy it

Apparently Archos has stepped up their build quality lately. This device is already out in Europe and the reviews are pretty decent. Its a wicked emulator gaming machine and a very good Android gaming device too as it has built in button mapping for touch screen games.

Oh, so this is the same one? Thought it was new! Well, Eurogamer didn't like it much: "Sadly, Archos' execution is depressingly slapdash, and very little care has been taken when it comes to the design of the much-hyped physical controls. It's a moot point, however; even if the interface been perfect, that wouldn't have totally overcome the other significant issues which impact the GamePad's performance. The battery life is terrible, the screen poor and the software buggy and frustrating to use on a regular basis. To make matters worse, the system is incompatible with many key Android games, robbing the product of its USP."

Fair point. I guess it's going to suck afterall lol

Why are there a lot of companies suddenly all jumping on board for consoles and handhelds, when everyone is predicting that consoles will be losing more and more buyers with the smart phones. Same goes with handhelds.

Predictions for LT console sales:

PS4: 120M

XB1: 70M

WiiU: 14M

3DS: 60M

Vita: 13M

Rift looks kind of cool, but I can't imagine using it for more than 30 minutes at a time max.

Archos Tablet looks cheap. Phyisical controls are nice but Android doesn't have enough controls that really need physical buttons to make this useful. Money would be better spent for a 3DS IMO.

Razer's thing is silly. Battery life for gaming is about 1 hour and add ons are lol expensive. Better off buying a gaming laptop.

Don't understand what the Steam Box is for. It's a small desktop which is kind of nice I guess, but I don't see what advantages it offers over PCs for the PC audience (aside size) and I don't see how it will appeal to console gamers. A nice niche product, but not a gamechanger.

Shield is poorly designed. Most of its features only work if you have compatible Nvidia chip in your CPU. Considering Android is mostly touch games right now, the screen should be build in to the controller, not on top where it's inaccessible. Maybe the final design will be better, but right now it's way too bulky.

Apparently with the controller add on, Razer will have a 4-5 hour battery life for gaming. 10-12 hour battery for non gaming activities... It's got a massive battery.

The problem in my eyes is that it's 1500 bucks and that it weights 5 lbs.

$1500? That's insane, nobody is going to buy that...

They absolutely wont. When you disect the parts, there is a lot of stuff there and I understand the high price(i7, massive battery, Nvidia GT640m). But as a gaming device, it can't sell for 1500... It just can't.

It could be essentially bought for $1249 with an i5. Cheapest configuration is below.

Tablet with i5, Nvidia 640GTm and 64 GB SSD - $999

Dual analog controller with extra battery - $249

3. Razer Edge

So it's 1,250$ with physical controls. Wow. I read a report last year from a journalist who said the thing got incredibly hot and noisy (yes, it has fans), and it overheated as he played it.

And if you want a keyboard dock for it...
