Forums - Sony - Need cables for my PS3

Ok ... I am getting my PS3 within a few weeks and I want to have the necessary cables to use it with my projector. I have an HDMI to DVI cable for my LCD, but can the PS3 use standard AV (component) cables? My projector does 1080i and I will be using it on that.

Thanks.

You can use HDMI or the Sony AV cable for Component or Composite. The component cables from the PS2 work fine in the PS3 but regular component cables do not.

Before I bought my HDMI cable (make sure to not buy it from stores, $9.99 from newegg beats Best Buy any day), I bought component cables for my PS3. It is plugged in where you plug in the standard composite cables, which means it works on the PS1 and PS2 as well. Also, since they're component cables too, I can run my PS2 in progressive scan.

Despite the fact that they're MadCat brand, they've worked well enough for me and they're also a 3-in-one by connecting with the Xbox, Xbox 360, and PS3.

Cool. I have component cables for my PS2. It has the same interface? That would be cool if it does.

Thanks.

Ok, let me get this straight - the PS3's AV interface uses RCA cables or the component cable that you use with the PS2 - like this?

If these are the cables, I have them already.

That's pretty much what I use (except that they have ends for the PS3, 360 and Xbox). That ought to be just fine. Give them a shot, they shouldn't have any problems and the PS3 should output up to 1080i with components.

Thanks. $15 isn't much for those cables. I was just wondering about the interface. I have heard about how the PS3 comes with standard cables and that's not gonna fly.

Once again, thanks.

Congratz on the purchase! :)

Thanks. Found a 60gb one at K-Mart on Carlisle near I-40. I put it on layaway. I pick it up within a few days because I wanna get that 5 free BR deal too.

@ madskillz )

yea the normal PS2 component-cables work fine with the PS3

did you make sure your LCD is able to decode HDCP?
