That's a good one Jay. @Soleron Why do you despise Pikmin so much? |
I actually don't, I bought New Play Control and it was OK but not my thing.
What I despise is Nintendo's current direction. There is exactly 1 3DS game I have bought, and I am interested in zero Wii U games. Yet I own an NES, N64, GC, GBC, 2 GBAs, 2 DSs, Wii, at least fifty full price Nintendo software titles from the previous three gens and basically nothing from any other company. I feel completely abandoned by their new strategy.
Here's when all my favourite game series died (as in, I hate everything on this list):
3D Mario: Galaxy (2007)
2D Mario: NSMB 2 (2011)
Paper Mario: Super (2007)
Metroid: Prime 3 (2007)
Zelda: Ocarina (1996)
Pokemon: Black/White (2010)
SSB: Still alive
MK: Still alive
Under 800k. This IP isn't that popular and I doubt it would change with Pikmin 3.
Can definitely see it selling past 2 million LT, purely because of the time it's releasing. How much more than 2 million it sells I have no idea.
Well I think Pikmin has a lot of things going for it that could lead 2m+ sales.
1. A long hiatus. Look at games like Prime. Metroid games have never sold that well, and when Metroid took a generation hiatus, it came back with the biggest sales of the series.
2. No real first party competition. This is the biggest first party game. There is no 3D Mario, no Zelda, no Metroid, there is really nothing besides NSMBU. I don't think a lot of the core nintendo base has jumped on yet, and Pikmin is adored by the Nintendo faithful.
3. The first 2 were excellent. Pikmin 1 and 2 are some of the best games Nintendo has put out. They are unique, beautiful, challenging, and quite fun. If the third is as well received as they were, then there is no reason it can't sell well.
I really love Pikmin, I bought my Wii U in anticipation of Pikmin. It's one of my favorite franchises out there, and I am overjoyed that it is finally getting a revival.

Seems like you just need to try these new games instead of just writing them off as bad/mediocre. You might actually like Pikmin 3 if you would try. Same with the other games. (Though I don't know what all games you have tried.)
Off Topic: You didn't like SMG2?

I tried all of the games listed, then anything after that I read reviews to see if they fixed what I didn't like about the game and they had not.
Pikmin 3's global time limit puts me off completely.
No I did NOT like SMG2. It was the same platforms-in-space developer-playground mess and SMG but minus a cool soundtrack.

I've gone into more detail on other threads, but basically that Nintendo shouldn't be bothering with these small franchises until they have all of the 10m+ selling games out on a system, and put all of their effort and production values into those games and not into the ones it /wants/ to make like Pikmin. This also excludes 3D Zelda by the way, they should stop treating it as a flagship game when it doesn't earn like one. |

So you are basically saying to Nintendo: "Do all the games I like to play and F*** all of the other fans and the games they like that I DON'T like". You are being an hypocrite here as you stated that they should only focus on their 10M+ selling franchises yet, you want them to make another game like super paper mario (3.4m) and metroid:prime 3 (1.64m). Nice way to think only about yourself.
Predictions for LT console sales:
PS4: 120M
XB1: 70M
WiiU: 14M
3DS: 60M
Vita: 13M

Nope. I don't think they should make another Paper Mario of any kind. I don't think they should make any more like Prime 3. Prime 1 was borderline (2.82m) but still not a priority.
And I meant those games ARE where the series died. I hate everything on that list.
I distinguish between what I want (say, more Paper Mario like 64/TTYD) and what NIntendo should do (Wii Sports, NSMB, etc). I don't like Ocarina, but if they can make a very Ocarina like game that sells like Ocarina (and not like Skyward) that would be OK because it sold well.
Bomb. But it will succeed in the heart of pikmin's fans.
