Forums - Gaming - Why Nintendo Must Launch A New Console In 2014

Fair enough Nintendo has proven that they dont need a moster console to be successful, but would it hurt to give there consoles a little more grunt? not insane amounts just a lil kick, mabye it could help bring in more developers, and bucket load of new games. I am by no means a Nintendo hater, hell Nintendo got me into gaming in the first place id just love to see a new Wii with a bit of horsepower.

I actually agree; I don't think it would hurt Nintendo to put some more power into their consoles... It didn't help the GC much, but this is a different market entirely nowdays... 3rd party support isn't exclusive in the same way, so if Nintendo could get all the same games as PS720 it would dominate!

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

I'll just say what I said before. The people who buy things on power think the others will come out and make wii u completely irrelevant (even though nintendo's franchises will carry them over) but it isn't about what a poster on the internet talking about power thinks.

It comes down to the people who stand with you. Power lovers are causing drama now but I wonder how many of you will be there if microsoft or sony give you the power you crave.

One more thing to complete my year = senran kagura localization =D

This reads like a recycled article from 2006. Nintendo needs to get Wii 2 with HD etc.

One of my problems with the thought processes behind articles like this is they never seem to consider there being any trade-offs or limitations to what console manufacturers will do ...

In theory, Nintendo could have produce a system that was 32 times as powerful as the Wii U had they wanted to; it would cost thousands of dollars to manufacturer, sit in a tower case bigger than any desktop most people have ever owned, have multiple large fans running whenever it was on, heat up any room as well as any space heater, and the game development costs to push visuals on the system to their limit would have forced games to be sold at $80. Sounds like something marketable doesn't it?

Beyond that, there is nothing saying Sony and/or Microsoft have to cater to the hardcore audience like they did in the previous generation. Sony and Microsoft saw their best sales after their systems were below $300 and after they released new controller-types. Sony and Microsoft actually don't care wether they have the "coolest" userbase, they really just want the largest userbase and most overall game sales they can get.

Finally, there are multiple examples demonstrating that newer/more-advanced systems don't seem to have a significant sales advantage. The most recent example is the 3DS vs. the PS-Vita, the Nintendo DS vs PSP is also a pretty good example, as is the PS2 vs. the Gamecube/XBox and the Playstation vs. the N64. Releasing a year later with more processing power isn't necessarily a very strong strategy if you look at the history of consoles.

(some) people tend to assume the successors to the ps3 and 360 are gonna arrive with a bang and knock everyone off their feet from day one...when in actuality they're most likely gonna be overpriced (or underpowered), launch with mediocre software (like every console in recent history. Remember, kids, it takes AAA software to sell systems and it takes a long time for a console to accumulate a decent library) and not live up to their full potential for 2-3 years like always, so by my reckoning nintendo wont have any huge concerns until around 2017, especially if the wii u is a successfully established console by 2014.

We are yet to see how powerful Wii U is and some people are already saying it`s not that powerful.
Not only that, it seems that some people, like the writer, already know how PS4 and X720 are going to turn out.

I will buy a WiiU before next gen MS console. You know why? Because Nintendo supports their consoles with awesome exclusives. There's never been a bad 3d mario, Zelda, or SSB. I buy the Playstation first, then get the WiiU because the controller is cool and Nintendo always has the best party games. If they could do Mario Galaxy on Wii I'm excited to see what they can do with a console as powerful as PS3 (slightly more so because of RAM). They don't need to be super powered because they're already making a big jump.

So we've had a few years of 'they need a Wii HD' and now it'll be a few years of 'they need a Wii U Super HD' or something.

VGChartz

with M$ money I can't imagine how powerfull nextbox. And I don't see any point Ninty need to follow M$ next beast.
