Forums - Gaming - At what point would you consider Vita a success?

How many units is "successful" for Vita?

20 million 28 13.86%

25 14 6.93%

30 18 8.91%

35 14 6.93%

40 43 21.29%

45 4 1.98%

50 48 23.76%

55 4 1.98%

60 7 3.47%

65 22 10.89%

Total:202

I guess 40-50 million is very successful.

Anything around 20-25 million I think I'd consider a success (original Xbox and Sega Genesis around this mark).

Dont Forget the Gamecube!

Anything less than 20million is a flop. This should be enough so software can really sell.

I'll consider it a success when I buy it....in all seriousness, probably around 40 million, give or take.

As long as it turns a profit as a project for Sony and its owners enjoy it it's a success. I remember Ninetndo saying if they had another GameCube they would be done with home consoles so I think it's safe to say 20-25 million is not good. We know Sega died with the 10 million dreamcasts. So I said above 25 million it could be looked at as a success. Not a big success mind you, but not a failure. It's tough though, because they are losing money on it. It may need to be 40 million or more to be a success from Sony's perspective. Since it seems to have lost market share from the previous generation it would have to be a failure in some respects, but I don't think we need to be that harsh and judge the device on its own merrits.

The PS Vita is DUA: Dead Upon Arrival. It has tough competition with the 3DS and tablets/mini tablets/mobile phones. 4 million sales in a year is a dismal effort for the Vita and it will be lucky if it sells 25 million ltd.

It is hard to be a success when your predecessor sold 70 million units and it considered a failure. I am going to say over 30 million would be successful to me. To companies though it isn't about units sold but the profits they bring in. I think it would be a great success for the Vita if it was listed on its own in Sony PR statements and/or financial reports.

95% of gamers don't know they are noobs, the 5% who do won't be noobs for long

They need to make a phone version. Xperia play was a boltched, half assed attempt. They need to make a full vita phone that claps down to become a regular android phone, claps up to become a fully functional vita. I'm pretty sure a lot of people would jump on it if they made that, and it was good... I know I would.
