Forums - Microsoft - Xbox Next will not be a console anymore. My take on Microsoft's Nextbox.

Squilliam: your idea sounds more like wht Valves console could be, just better.

Well the way Valve operates is pretty great as a business and they are inspirational but yeah Microsoft just has a lot more resources to throw at a console. I'm just waiting and hoping we'll get some great consoles because they really push the industry forward when they push new interfaces and new ways of playing games. I was a little disapointed with Nintendo but I don't think Sony/Microsoft will fail to get things moving again as they both understand now they need more than just a powerful machine with a PS1 variant style controller.

We get it STAGE, you hate Microsoft. Do everyone a favour and stop posting in every next Xbox thread about how Microsoft are some great evil entity please.

I tend to get that impression as well.

You guys are welcomed to your beliefs but their console has two games I like and their names are Halo and Gears. Those are my prime reasons for having the console, games. That is my major gripe with Microsoft, lack of competent game development. Everything they seem to think they are doing right has nothing to do with games, but rather to exploit and rape the industry of what its all about. I didnt come to feel this way about Microsofts movements with the Xbox 360 for a long period of time, for there was once a time where I was lashing out at Sony for making the wrong moves and praising Microsoft (the first three years of this gen). I give credit where its due, and take it away where it isnt deserved.

well I am old school so I would prefer a pure gaming console as that is what I want to do on it.

But I got no problems if they want to jazz it up for other users. Don't really care about skype etc as my tv already does all that.

So a bit like wii u..?

But it's right.. in few years.. not that many peple will need a pc (or mac)

The consoles are becomming the ultimate tv solution and offer all the content from the internet.. just much smoother.. and they will start having apps to (programs)

Look at wii u.. both the media (netflix and so) and the browser top what any windows pc can do.. and then look at the price.. wii u is truely a pc killer.. (and pc killer. means microsoft core business, is in danger)

Yeah pretty soon they will catch up to what PC's already are lol!  PC's do everything you mentioned far better!  The only thing I will say is most people are too dumb to build one so they don't know console-like sub $300 PC's exist...

They don't exist. You will not be building a brand new PC for sub $300 that will play games at the same fidelity. Had you said sub $500 I'd agree with you. Sub $300 would require used parts or some massive bargain shopping to piece together your build over time. I suppose with newer onboard graphics you could barely pull off most newer games at 1280x720 with low to medium settings.

If you only like Gears of War and Halo, thats fine I only like Halo really out of all their franchises. However it doesn't mean you should repeat the same 'MS is raping the gaming community hide your kids hide your wives and hide your husbands cos they rapin' everybody out here' every time you see them mentioned because everyone knows your opinions because you surely don't avoid any opportunity to spread them.

A bit depressing but looking at Microsoft's take on Xbox 360 in more recent years, a focus on multimedia is very likely. It should be about the games though. If I want multimedia I can use my PC. Also I hope the new Xbox don't break easily, like 360 did at first, that would be embarrassing for them

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

So a $600 multimedia focused system ... Sounds familiar

No. Much more than that.

The 360 too was already a multimedia focussed system.

Will it prepare coffee too?    This makes me think about http://www.caradvice.com.au/181600/fiat-500l-cute-italian-makes-coffee-go/

Will it prepare coffee? I wouldn't be surprised if you can get a home automation app for it which will turn your coffee machine on at a set time every morning.
