Forums - Microsoft - Xbox Next will not be a console anymore. My take on Microsoft's Nextbox.

Maybe I'm misreading the OP, but why wouldn't people just jump ship from Xbox to PC if this is what the 720 looks like?

Because even though the 720 could likely become a PC hybrid next gen. Theres a difference between using a PC on your computer table and laying back at your own couch.

Fair enough. But surely with a few cables here and there you could produce the same effect on a television monitor. And then there's the rumored Steam PC/console hybrid, which seems to want to relocate to the living room as well.

It just strikes me as a dangerous game for Microsoft. If Xbox continues to move closer and closer to PC, people might just notice that a computer offers a very similar experience to Xbox, minus the exclusives of course but also minus the subscription fees.

The Xbox 1, PS4 and Xbox Next will all have PC based architectures but that doesn't make them PCs. They serve different purposes and have different strengths and weaknesses.

Tease.

I predict the hardware will be an 8 core Jaguar with half reserved at least initially for the OS/Kinect (Jaguar isn't designed like server chips so the two quad cores will be separate) with 8GB of RAM (5GB games, 3GB OS + Apps + Kinect libraries)

No chance

I wish people stop overestimating Kinect/OS/Apps etc

Xbox 360s are used as much for movies and apps as they are for games if not more. They are important even if they aren't important to you. Microsoft has spent considerable effort in developing Kinect, and the Xbox 360 OS including the many apps which they have released thus far, if anything it points to their importance as they wouldn't be pushing them as hard if they weren't effective and it points to how they will be even more important in the next generation with a console designed to take advantage of them rather than jury rigged obsolete hardware.

I'm not talking about it's important or not,i'm talking about the power level, and people just overestimated,it doesn't need 4 or 2 or even 1 full core, thanks

I fear these predictions are true.

I expect Microsoft to work out a deal with Direct TV or Comcast for cable in the states for the next Xbox. The gaming industry is about to get exploited in the worst way. GO AMERICA!! XCABLEBOX 2013!!!

The days of pure gaming consoles that only do games from any of the big 3 are over, the sooner "fans" and "fanboys" from any company start accepting that, the better.

Also where Sony can't afford not to.
