Forums - General - 61% of US patent lawsuits in 2012 were brought by Patent Trolls

That's compared to 45% last year and 23% five years ago.

The time for large-scale intellectual property reform is now, methinks.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Some might have a legit case but usually that isn't the case. I suppose this topic won't get that many responses on here which is a little unusual because you would think people would like to point the finger at Apple on this site for these suits. Anyways, there needs to be reform because this current situation just isn't working.

This is sad.

Difficult as it may be, there need to be restrictions on what may be patented and how they are licensed and for how much.

Stuff like "White packaging box for chamfered edges" should not be allowed to be patented IMO.

Anyone who blatantly places a patent on a product already existing in market should be charged with fraud.

As for reform, I say bring it on. Abstract and frivolous patents hinder real R&D.

Here is the best example of why the entire Patent System needs to be reformed:

That swing post put the underdog swing method straight into my brain.

"A high swing wherein the person pushing the swing runs beneath the swing while the person being pushed is at the forward limit of the arc."

I can see that.  Insane isnt it?

Let me guess, Apple owns 90% of that 61%?

The best quote I've seen this year:

I thought it was over 80% already, but I guess if you combine patent trolls with stuff that should not be patented in the first place you are closer to 95% of patent suits.
