The transaction alone would cost immensely as SEGA is a public traded company; thus, in order to be bought, Sony would need to cash in at least twice its market cap value for investors to say yes. If anything, this transaction alone would push Sony to bankruptcy, which will happen soon if they don't get out of the T.V. business.

Hahahaha, no. Sony is not even close to bankruptcy.

Would be a genius move. Sony needs a strong mascot presence, in this case, Sonic. Taking Sonic games away from MS and Ninty would go a long way securing Sony an even better exclusive lineup.

Yakuza is also strong in Japan, where Sony needs help and keeping it exclusive is key. Other franchises such as Phantasy Star Online, Virtua Fighter, Sakura Taisen, all are strong in Japan.

Sega has good classics but lately they are making mostly bad games... Now imagine giving the IPs to Sony and have their studios develop for it? A Golden Axe hack and slash developed by Santa Monica, or a Streets of Rage by Naughy Dog, for example. Would be crazy.

Golden axe by santa monica or streets of rage by naughty dog is a waste of talent.  These tested and proved studios should keep doing what they are doing which is creating new and innovative ips.  Reinventing old ips is best left to new studios who want to make a name for themselves but need some extea oomph an established ip provides.

True, but the last time sony posted a profit was in 2008, a company can only operate with negative income for so long before it starts cutting off sections of its business...

...I thought you liked Sony.

Junk status maybe? Higher debt level than capital. Screams bankruptcy to me if they don't level their business properly. The company has not been profitable since 2008.

Alarming and yet so true.

I think they should at least buy some rights to the Yakuza franchise.

No. Sony should try and turn their business around before they buy anymore companies.

No.

Sega should stay FREE!

Sony should grab Yakuza, Valkyria Chronicles and Miku and Phantasy Star franchices. Nintendo can have Sonic for all I care. :)

Bet with gooch_destroyer, he wins if FFX and FFX-2 will be at $40 each for the vita. I win if it dont

I think theres zero chance of this happening. Sony is in no position to buy anyone, they need to worry about bankrupcy and insolvence. Remeber they got rated as trash on the credit market. They have debt as it is and they have to pay even higher interest rates on loans. Belive me, this has no chance of happening.

With that said, i dont think it would help Sony at all. Nintendo is the perfect fit for SEGA games. The audience is somewhat alike but more hardcore. Its something Nintendo could certaily use to make the Wii U more appealing in their new strategy to capture the hardcore aswell. Also, they can afford it.

Microsoft would profit from it aswell with more IP's to draw from, but lets be honest, everything Microsoft touches turns to crap, so i honestly hope that doesnt happen. They obviously can afford them aswell.
