see I said something like this a while back. I said that I think Sony could get the PS3 cheaper quicker than the 360 because of all the cutting-edge technology in it, but ppl thought it was ridiculous. well look what may just happen. I will be happy if this happens, even if I did pay $500 for mine.

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.


Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

 

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

Judging by last price cuts, (if this rumour turns out to be true) Sony will deny it, and drop it a week later

PS3 is not competing versus the Wii, at least for the moment, even with a 300$ price point, they will not attract the same crowd.

I don't know what's so difficult about understanding that. Apparently people on both sides seem to think that way.

Though, I wouldn't doubt the PS3 to start tapping into the 'on the fence' PS2 owners if it gets even cheaper.

The PS3 is not going to dominate anytime soon if at all. I see the Wii coming first, the PS3 not far behind and the Xbox360 well it is going to do a little better than the XB but fall to 3rd where it belongs.

It would be a brilliant move by Sony, especially with all the great games lined up for 2008, Sony would probably outsell the Wii every week.

Now the likely hood.... Probably not so good, but Sony would snatch up alot of the market, and pretty much extinguish 360 sales.

They had over 150 PS3's stacked on a floor display at the BB closest to me after Christmas. The stack was built into the shape of a small room and had been there since Black Friday (a store employess told me they were not restocking it, they just made the room a little smaller over the season as the PS3's were not selling well). Even with all that overstock they never dropped the price to $299.

I think the PS3 will sell well at $299, and the other consoles will drop in price and continue to sell well too.

I think that if Sony really has cut the manufacturing cost of the PS3 to $400, it is very likely that we could see such a price cut.

And, of course, a Sony price cut means a very likely price cut for the other two as well :D
