Forums - Sales Discussion - PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is a MAJOR flop - we need to talk about it

That is what you get for releasing this plagiarism to a fanbase which is demanding third party characters. Glad people gave this the finger. You cannot release a rip off this shameless and expect to come close to the figures that the real deal achieves.

Smash bros is the original and the best. Oh well. Back to the drawing board sony. You can still rip off pikmin. I respect microsoft for not going there. I have no idea how these guys can look themselves in the mirror.

Yeah yeah I heard 'it plays different'. It is still a rip off. I am calling them out the same way the sony defense force would cry foul if nintendo ripped off ico.

Oh boy....

Ironically I don't think it copied Brawl enough. It's not accessible enough to be a pick-up-and-play party fighting game. You have to be seriously into it, and the serious fighter scene is tiny and oversaturated.

Hmmmmmmm... So Sony released a derivative fighting game with a poor roster and a lack of polish and its sales are poor. Whodathunk.

The game might reach 1.5 M. Maybe 2M if you want to count bundles. Ok for the average game. For a game that features all of Sony's biggest franchises, and was their big release for the holiday... kind of sad.

Edit:  What's with this new IP rationalization?  Calling this a new IP is maybe technically correct, but willfully dishonest.  When a game launches with 20 supposedly well known characters that should negate a huge portion of the trepidation most new IPs face.  This isn't some risky obscure new title...

Huh?

Uncharted flopped pretty bad aswell only 30,215 first week sales, damn theres no hope for ps all stars now :(

Isn't this a good thing?? The fact that this game has failed. Honestly, gamers are punishing unoriginality. People can talk all they want about how this game is different and how LBP Karting is different from Mario Kart and they probably are. But the fact is that they "look" like ripoffs and I don't mind it that games that look like wripoffs fail. I would much rather reward Sony for games like Uncharted and Heavy Rain than for these games which were conceived by marketing people rather than passionate game designers.

What if sony players want there own karting game? what about sega karting? I dont hear you harping on about that being a rip off or modnation racers or crash team racers or f1 race stars etc etc only LBP Karting is a rip off none of the the others,oh yep I get it.

Bundled to death and bundled very early of the life of ps3.

ps3 has 1 year before it becomes last gen and maybe 2 years support.

Perhaps I phrased that poorly, but the point is that this game has characters like Kratos, Drake, Sack Boy, and a bunch of other Sony's main franchises.  So, it instantly has far more name recognition than something like Dishonored or Catherine.

And no, that does not negate the roster sucking :)

Wow, that sucks, I played the game my Nephew bought it, It's actually preety darn fun, At first I hated this game, Because it was just a copy of smash bros, But once I played it it's actually diffrent and fun in it's own way.
The main problem is that Sony Doesen't have Characters that have Nostalgia and Charm As Nintendo does.
I mean Be honest.. That Feel... When you play Smash bros and Epic music old school music plays in the background while you beat eachother up with your friends using Characters you grew up with as a kid is just win. Sadly sony doesent have that, Yes they have some adorable characters but it just doesen't fit well :/

Honestly with VGC lately it could be 100k-200k FW. A flop compared to hype, but could be a moderate success.

So after one week in only two markets (neither of which are big on the PS3 or fighting games) we're declaring whether this game is a success or a failure?

Anyone claiming this would be a 5 million plus game is kidding themselves. That said, anyone claiming that those people make up the majority of people making claims is no better.

It's a solid game though.
