If this really was part of a deal with Nintendo, I hope it means their relationship with Team Ninja is soured and we don't have to worry about the next Metroid being Other M 2.

Let's properly assign blame for that one; Sakamoto is not a Team Ninja employee.

Who worked on practically all previous Metroid games, again? Oh right, Sakimoto. Who was the one of the two who developed Ninja Gaiden 3? Team Ninja.

Dude, that is incredibly specious logic at best. The record's pretty clear on who was responsible for what in Other M. Unless you believe that 1) all parties involved are lying, and 2) the famously iron-fisted Nintendo decided to let a third-party developer drive development on one of its more critically-renowned titles.

Hmm... have Nintendo not let SEGA, Namco, and Capcom all have a jab at their big franchises before? Also, I think it makes more sense to blame the entire team who's responsible for delivering the vision rather than a single man.

If by that you mean "let them develop the game without Nintendo directing" then the answer is "no." Nintendo regularly farms out many of its franchises, even the big ones, but those teams answer to someone at Nintendo. Even Retro Studios continues to get lots of oversight and direction from NCL. Everything that's in Other M is there because Sakamoto either wanted it from the get go, or signed off on it.

Yet people praise SEGA for F-Zero GX all the time and not Nintendo. Kind of a double standard, eh? or how about Sin & Punishment?

I agree with that too, SEGA and Treasure are the ones who deserve credit for those games. It's funny though that when the game ends up a success the development team is rightly acknowledged for their work, but when it doesn't turn out quite as people wanted, the blame is all placed on a single man. Completely ridiculous.

Perhaps. What of it?

There's more.

Fair enough.

I would point out, though, that Nintendo deliberately and repeatedly went out of its way to single out Sakamoto before the game was released, and (in my opinion) engaged in revisionist history to make him single-handedly responsible for the earlier Metroid titles, as well as (in objective terms) to promise that Other M would have that Super Metroid magic.

Basically, even if you're right, the perception started with Nintendo's own PR.

I'll also add that there are plenty of examples to the contrary. The success of such games as Mario and Donkey Kong, as well as the less-successful Pikmin etc. are pinned on Miyamoto personally, not his teams. It does cut both ways.

Yeah, and Miyamoto himself has gone on to say he has very little to do with the outcome of most of the games he has worked on recently. He's usually only there to supervise a project now. It's not difficult to see why he made a name for himself, though, when the early games he worked on had such small teams. Sakamoto is very much the same, and Nintendo is likely trying to push his name because they no longer have someone from the original Metroid team with the same name power as Gunpei Yokoi.

...and don't get me wrong I do believe one man can still influence the outcome of a game in some ways, but I think it's ultimately up to the entire team in the end to deliver on the project. Kojima is a good example. When Kojima's not involved in the development of a Metal Gear project... it's usually pretty evident, but take away his team and he's obviously not going to get anywhere.

So, yeah I take back what I said. It's equally wrong of me to place the blame on Team Ninja, when they were only part of what formed Project M. I honestly forgot that Project M was made up of 3 development teams, when I started placing the blame on Team Ninja. *embarassed*

You know what's worse? I actually kind of like Other M. I just feel like they should take a different direction for Metroid.

Guys, give Tecmo a break. They are just trying to fix the boobs physics for you since the slow CPU/RAM on the WiiU couldn't handle bouncing boobs.

now that's just not true :P http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=150466&page=1#

I don't see a problem with them coming out with sigma 3, the problem is will people buy them after so much hate? people are practically shitting on razor's edge on the internet even though it's really not bad at all lol. You'll die a lot though, like fuck............
