No leo-j, you can't... at all. You need an IR sensor to do this, and the only console that can do this is the Wii.

It could be done. You could put images with a pattern on the edge of a pair of glasses, and with this calculate depth, pitch, and location. With that, you could even do split screen (with a different set of images) with the same camera. It would work, and it would not require the head piece to be powered. From a technical perspective, it could be done, and even be superior.

The problem is why? You still have a standard controller, and an audience that has no desire for this kind of thing.

Why reinvent the Wii? Just get a Wii :)

Well, not really. Any console could put out an IR camera peripheral and a wearable IR source and start head tracking. Wii has an advantage in that it would just need a stand for a second Wiimote, rather than a whole new device.

Where things break down for other consoles is the conventional controller they still use. You're standing and headtracking, dodging bullets, totally immersed... and still have a two-handed grip on some thumbsticks. It falls flat when you aren't aiming at the screen.
