It could be done. You could put images with a pattern on the edge of a pair of glasses, and with this calculate depth, pitch, and location. With that, you could even do split screen (with a different set of images) with the same camera. It would work, and it would not require the head piece to be powered.From a technical perspective, it could be done, and even be superior.

The problem is why? You still have a standard controller, and an audience that has no desire for this kind of thing.

Why reinvent the Wii? Just get a Wii :)
