Forums - PC - Anyone got a good Graphics card refrence?

Cause I swear to god, nothing pisses me off then trying to figure out what is or isn't a good graphics card in a new computer, with everyone using similar but completely different numbering schemes.  Espiecally annoying when they change numbers for laptops.

I swear... trying to figure out graphics card equivlencies makes me want to punch someone so hard.

Shopping for laptops I can play the latest X-com on and some similar games, and it's near damn impossible to figure out the damn graphics cards... because they all use different yet similar numbering schemes which can TOTALLY change on graphics cards for laptops.

Even the tech specs they do give seem completely freaking meaningless unless i want to look at benchmark tests all day... and unlike a regular computer i can't just pick a graphics card I know is good and instal that shit myself.

So, you're looking for a desktop or laptop graphics card?

Laptop, preferably a chart or range as i wanted to look for a decent laptop deal monday.  Though really anything will help.

Essentialy looking for a NVdia 9000 equivlent in a Laptop card.

Some X-com and Civ 5 would go a long way in making the days that are slow at my work go faster.

For a start, Tom's HW makes a GPU quick comparison chart updated each month:

But yes, for integrated desktop and mobile GPUs often they give the name/number of the whole chipset, while the GPU have different ones.

That... sort of helps... i don't know, still having trouble translating that to these... reqs.

  • Graphics: 512 MB ATI 4800 series or better, 512 MB nVidia 9800 series or better

Or just

  • Graphics:NVIDIA GeForce 9000 series / ATI Radeon HD 3000 series or greater

For XCOM.
