Forums - General - What happened to deep conversations?

Deep converstaions do not have to be composed of relegion. Lifes meaning can be one that we all define ourselves.

The thing about discussions concerning life's meaning (and the likes) is that they are completely baseless. They may have depth, but without a base their depth loses all meaning. It's kind of like comparing imaginary friends with one another. You may have deep entertaining conversations when comparing them, finding similarities and great differences and such, but in the end the comparison really is pointless since none of them actually exist.

Discussing what you think is the meaning of life can be entertaining, but in the end you'll realize that absolutely nothing proves or even indicates (from a scientific basis) that you are right. As I see it, that is what kills such discussions.

I have deep conversation all the time, its all about what kind of people you surround yourself with! Maybe I'm just lucky. I could never survive on just shallow talk with no substance, discussion is the essence of human existense in my opinion.

Yeah. Me and my college roommate talked philosophy all the time. Helped that we were both theologically and philosophically literate and both total nerds.

Well you're missing out on some great speculative discussions then :/

People do not believe in God that way as much as before. I know I don't look for him if I need something. I know people talk about there prayers being answered but have you ever thought about all the prayers that went unanswered? I believe you have to make who you are in this world with your own decisions and your own judgement. Ill work for what I want and I only have myself to thank for that because he sure as hell didnt help me along the way.

Why waste your time with baseless speculation when there is plenty of hard science to occupy your time?

There is a place for philosophy... behind the counter at fast food joints :P

Seriously though, why not participate in philisophical discussions? I do so on a regular basis and despite the fact that they truly are groundless speculation, I can think of less constructive uses of my time.

the thought I had was that if we humans can create the things we can today and what we will be able to create in the near future like human like robots with their own will to learn, think and act. if the human race survives, lets say for one million years imagine what we would be able to do! Time and time again we have created the impossible! so with that thought in mind why is it so hard to believe that we are created by the creator?

I mean we can maybe not yet but soon be able to create human like AI in a computer world and implement the thought of "were we created or did we just come from nothing" thought in to that AI.
