mostly because the mayans are at least mildly accurate with their predictions. Although it is worth noting that the end of a calendar doesn't necessarily mean the world is going to end. They just probably figured out there is less money in making a calader that lasts a milenium instead of putting pretty pictures on it and selling a new one every year.

 They just got lazy... they were on 1521 and they  had a calendar for 2012... they said... We finish next week... and blam they dissapear...

Nothing out of the ordinary.

Mayan's calendar will be resetting, which has happened previously and will happen again.

Supposedly the world's magnetic poles are going to flip as well. But, I believe that has happened before as well with no major repercussions.

Basically, there should be no major issues, except a bunch of crazies going all psycho like at the turn of the millennium.
