Forums - Sony Discussion - SONY set to JUNK status

What would it take exactly for the seriousness of the situation to sink in for some of you? Does someone have to say that there is a real chance of Sony going bankrupt next year? Do you need to be told that the total liabilities of the company could exceed total assets in a matter of months? Do you need to have it pointed out that Sony is in a death spiral, and those are most often not recoverable? The end result is usually a collision with the ground this is reality. Tell me what it is you need to be told?

Oh. most people would have ignore this. They know that Sony is a good brand.

Agreed. The quicker Sony adjusts to the situation it's now in, the faster it'll get itself out of this mess. So far, Sony has done a decent job at making changes, though I hope the company won't just stop there.

I think people here saying "thats it then for Sony" are over stating things.

Whilst this is the latest in the line of bad happenings, it isn't the final nail by any stretch.

Some decent numbers over the next year or so and these ratings will change.

I have always said the future Sony is a very different beast that the past. It will be smaller and leaner. It will specialise. I think they will sell off some software assets like movies perhaps in time. The recent music buy ups are already proving troublesome so they may move away from that too in time. Perhaps it is a case of Software or hardware... make your mind up time Sony?

Well said.

Anyway, if BB- is classed as "junk", what the hell is C classed as?

Shame to hear about Panasonic too.

Also junk.

Junk bonds refer to any bond with a credit rating below investment grade.

Another word for it is a speculative bond.

Basically junk status means it's not worth holding for conservative longterm investment goals and is a big risk unless hedged properly.

Where IS the Sony defense force??

Can someone tell me why these purely flamebait posts that add nothing to the discussion go unmoderated?  Well, reported.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Conservatives:  Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.

Fertilizer

They're almost there.

I can't believe some people support the trolls on N4G.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

what do you think will happen if Sony shuts down all operation, it will only leave Microsoft and Nintendo as console manufacturer's and none of you see the real problem with this, its the same problem with the PC if AMD went out of the market Intel would be able to demand what they like for their CPU's and the consumer would have no choice but pay what ever price they demand as there would be no competition, like wise if Sony went out of the console market Microsoft would only have Nintendo as competition and as the Wii U is not aimed at the same market as the xbox Microsoft would then have a monopoly and charge what they like and us consumers would have no choice but pay what they demand, it's your choice at the end of the day either chose to be a gamer or chose to have a monopoly i know what i would chose its that easy.

TO BE A GAMER.

Current PC build:

Asus Z97I-Plus, i5 4790K @ 4.6ghz, EVGA GTX 980 ACX 2.0 1377/1853/124%, Corsair Vengence Pro 2400mhz 2x 8192mb, Corsair RM850, Corsair H80i, 120GB OCZ Vertex 3 SSD, 750GB Seagate Momentus XT SSHD, 320GB Weston Digital HDD, Corsair 230T, Corsair K50 Raptor, HP XQ500AA mouse, Windows 10 Pro 64bit. iiyama Pro Lite G2773HS 120Hz 1Ms G2G gaming monitor.

Maybe, just maybe, the market isn't big enough for 3.

"if Sony went out of the console market Microsoft would only have Nintendo as competition and as the Wii U is not aimed at the same market as the xbox Microsoft would then have a monopoly and charge what they like and us consumers would have no choice but pay what they demand"

Sony was the one asking US$600,00 for a videogame when the PS3  was launched.

Remember E3 2006 when Kaz Hirai announced the PS3 price? He said "you must to take risks to reach the rewards".

That's Sony's reward right there.
