I was thinking earlier that with games having a high standard on current consoles will be even higher next gen?

You may wonder how can this be "harmful"? But looking at recent games that don't look like AAA usually flopping will it be even worst gen?

We will never get a game like xenoblade on consoles because everything must look up to day therefor costing the companies to make smaller games but more impressive looking? Of course I'm talking about smaller companies but are big companies not wanting risk there lively hood.

I mean we barely get games that look great (big games in size or something different)from Japan because it just cost to much to do it on current gen hardware. What chance do they have for next gen?

It's seems we also may fall into creative hold of sequels to sequels because with next there will be less people in the install base because of it not being in the market long. So, companies will be forced to give popular titles because selling 500,000 day one on a console with not even 1/3 of install base isn's going to be easy. I remember back in n64,ps2, and GC days we didn't have the worry so much if something flopped.

It seems that the future isn't looking that great and mostly likey we will lose more developers and have less variety.

So, I guess the question really is fellow vg members would you rather have more great games that aren't graphicly impressive or less great games with impressive next-gen look?

(Note I bring up graphics a lot without mentioning reviewers who without a doubt go hard on games next gen for not looking like at least a AA game which will probably kill a lot of retail games that can't afford it.)

Don't worry, the steeper things climb, the faster the industry will need to change before things all collapse again.

Er... well.. try not to worry.

You know I was thinking about that the other day. I mean with all the studios closing this gen...etc I think we're due for a VG market collapse. Maybe next gen?

Only the strong will survive.

As a hardcore gamer, I demand moar graphics.

Also, the current closeups of mortal blows aren't up to the standard I want them to be. I want it in super slow-motion, so I can marvel at every tiny bit of brain that is spreading all over the place.

That's nice, but I think boob physics should be prioritized.

I promise Ninja Gaiden will deliver. The camera will be so close when Ryu is stabbing enemies in the guts that you won't be able to see how those mercenaries with machineguns killed you.

Just going to be more of what we've seen this generation with the middle falling out. You're going to have your huge franchises with massive budgets but the next step down will be downloadable titles. Those have really taken off, even without photo-realistic graphics. Publishers will still take chances looking for the next Assassin's Creed or Call of Duty but most independent studios will be working with a smaller scale. We're probably also going to see more episodic releases, which allow developers to test the waters without as large of an investment.

Personally, I'm pretty happy with the state of downloadable games. Unless you're the kind of person who only wants to play the blockbusters, I think the future of gaming looks pretty fun. I also wouldn't be surprised to see more stylistic artwork in the same vein as Borderlands or Journey.

Thankfully, the Wii U has come to the rescue! All who cannot afford the expensive software development costs needed for next-gen titles will have the option to develop games for seven year old hardware instead!

Oh, wait...

Once nextbox releases, I'll just take both. Thank you.
