'Why would anyone prefer it over Windows 7 on traditional PCs?'
2. Because it's a much better multi monitor experience than Windows 7. Try it and you'll see why. 3. Faster, efficient, better battery life for laptops and other improvements. 4. And finally, because once you learn to use it properly, and learn the keyboard and mouse shortcuts, it blows Windows 7 out of the water for 95% of tasks. Wanna bet that I can launch CMD prompt, admin tools, disk management, regedit... in Windows 8 faster than you can in Windows 7? No desktop shortcuts... Also, the mobile and desktop market are going to be the same thing in a few years. Unless microsoft does this, they are dead in the water... |
I tried betas, RC, the full version torrent, and I'm back on 7.
Of course, I can get used to it by trying harder, but I don't want to. Also, come on! We are all nerds here, we are accustomed to technological changes. Now, think about the old people who have been working in offices for decades. They are comfortable by doing the same repetitive tasks everyday, they don't want change. How do you sell this to them? Why in hell would they want a touch interface?!
Is it better for HTPC? Yes, but there were a lot of great software for that, compatible with prior versions of Windows. Multi-display implementation is better, no doubt. It does definitely boot up faster, and ...well, that's about all. Irrelevant stuff here...
Microsoft's core customers are enterprises, and Windows 8 is so radically different that it could harm employee productivity. They won't buy it. Plus, major developers hate it.
Conclusion: IT WILL FAIL.
