Sony announced, last week, investimens of R$ 100 millions (U$ 50 millions) to produce what they called "telegame".

The approval of a R$ 100 millions Sony project by the Superintendency of the Manaus Free Zone (Suframa) is surrounded by mystery. Possibly for reasons of confidentiality, it's unknow which product will be manufactured in Brazil by the Japanese company. The text submitted to Suframa by Sony cites only the term "telegame". Within the range of Sony's consoles, it can mean both the Playstation 3 and the PS Vita.

My thoughts: the brazilian market has more than 40 million costumers and the PS2 is still the leader here, with this move Sony is aiming to make PS3 or Vita more accessible (more cheap) to us.

Something that I have been wondering actually..why didn't they do this earlier? Afaik the prices are atrocious in Brazil for PS Hardware. This is a good sign if true

That's what I've been saying for years. PS3 will get nice sales long into the next gen (largely sales in emerging markets) and quite easily pass 100 million consoles lifetime.

Maybe since video games and systems are expensive in Brazil, Sony wants to use its Gaikai purchase to make gaming affordable by steaming games (at a reduced cost) instead of having people purchase them outright

I wouldn't be surprised if they were going to manufacture PSone consoles and reprints of the old games.

The Sega Master System was sold in Brazil well into the 2000's.

Sony BUILT TWO MANUFACTURING PLANTS in Brazil two years ago.
They have been making PS2s in Brazil since then, and very likely start to make other hardware soon as the demand for PS2s is decreasing rapidly.

lol that is true, by the way TecToy the company that seels the Master System and the Genesis here sold more than 150k unites of both consolse (combined) last year.
