Forums - Gaming - G4 Can ROT! (Rant)

So I grew up when G4 first came around ( at the tail end of the Tech TV days) and i used to watch Arenas, Cheats!, Xplay when it was funny and not a news show, Tech TV and the begining of AOTS, I loved this channel, it helped me find an outlet for my inner Gamer.  I could come home after a full day of school and sports and relax by watching Gaming centric TV whenever i wanted.  It was awesome.

Now over these past coupe years i watched it turn into a cheaters and Cops fest.. it was heartbreaking. the channel i used to know and love was turning into a channel i could barely stand to watch with 3 exceptions.  Those being, X-play (stopped watching when it turned into a news program about videogames vs. a nonsensical hilarious show of great reviews and crazy shorts, man do i miss those interns..) , AOTS ( i stopped watchign when Kevin left), and Ninja Warrior ( which doesnt fit into the lineup, but i still loved it.)

Now that G4 has canceled the only shows that involved game, i can no longer stand to support G4, this is an abonination on what TechTV and the old G4 was.  Im so glad that I can watch my Ninja Warrior on NBC or whatever it is so that I don't have to suject myself to turning to this horrific channel.

This news upset me deeply becuase now i don't believe there is any othr network that has gaming centric or tech centric shows, minus GTTV which..is okay but, i can't get myself to get into it since its once a week, and just doesnt hit my intrest.  I miss the great gaming shows that G4 used to play and its upsetting that they won't ever be going back to those shows, because they make more money off of reruns of Lost, olf movies and Cops...

I'd like to know how other people are feeling with this news of no more X-Play and AOTS on G4, i know they aren't the same without their leads, but atleast they were a last ditch effort to keep Gaming centric / Techie shows on the air...

I made a thread about this, but discussion stopped. I feel your pain and there is nothing left in terms of dedicated widely available gaming tv. I would love if someone like Tommy Tallarico started his own station and approached the Big 3 to have them create their own official shows. Start the thing off with a bang that way. Even better now that both Microsoft and Sony stopped producing their own shows, they are available to start up something new.

Here is the first thread http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=149175&page=1#

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Sorry i missed your thread, I just saw this news and it was rather heartbreaking, i like your ideas, It would be awesome to have the Big 3 have their own channels. i think G4 is also missing out on the Competitive Gaming scene, which i mean i don't watch but as it gets more and more popular, they had a great chance to strike the market. however, its very sad that the big wigs at comcast wanted to cancel the only shows i considered relevant to the culture that G4 and TechTV help curate

Yeah, taking over TechTV was a tragedy. G4 was just trying to be MTV and now they are trying to be Spike TV and apparently thinking they can be an Esquire/GQ channel for the "modern man". Gaming is bigger than it has ever been before and G4 sucked at catering to it and ultimetely caused their own demise. I couldn't watch that channel because when I tuned in to hear about gaming news all I'd get were pool parties and reality tv. Seriously WTF.

It was honestly sad.. i mean yes for Comcast i can get that they think they can market themselves more effectively or can make more revenue from a "modern male channel," it remains to be seen., I'm just bitter that TechTV and the carry over were the only outlet for this medium, and culture. and i haven't found an alternative to the programming they once had. I stopped regularly watching when they started airing a bunch of cops and cheaters, i knew it wasnt the same as it used to be but i was still staying there with hope. but that was the final straw. Then I tuned into Xplay and AOTS and they have changed for the worse since it isn't as good to how they were doing it in the past. The takeover killed it.

Every year G4 was the most underwhelming channel on television. It died years ago to me, I feel nothing about the rebranding to GQ and the canceling of its content.

I have to admit that I'm a sucker for LOST re-runs, but otherwise I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment.

G4 has become SpikeTV 2. It lost everything that was great about Tech TV (LOVED The Screen Savers, HATE AotS); I liked Kevin Pereira when he first joined... couldn't stand him by the time he left; all of the hosts they have now are terrible: Blair what's-his-name sucks, that Candace Bailey bimbo is beyond annoying, and Morgan Webb... well, I've never liked her to begin with. About the only ones I can think of that I actually think are cool are Matt Mira, Jessica Chobot and Kristin Adams, who is delicious looking.

Truthfully, it really doesn't faze me that the channel is going non-game soon because the only time I find it productive to watch it anymore (aside from LOST, which I can watch anytime on blu-ray) is during E3.

Unfortunately, GTTV suffers from a similar dilemma for me, as I can't stand Geoff Keighley. Argh... I can't win!

Kevin was the only reason i kept watching AOTS,but it was much better when it was Screen Savers.i I guess i should just be happy that i got to enjoy it while it lasted. Its upsetting to see it go and to know that the audience that they got their start from, they strayed from.
