Forums - Nintendo - Could ZombiU could be a very important game for Nintendo?

ZombiU is looking very promising indeed, a game built for the new hardware from the ground up, utilizing the gamepad in a unique way and a mature content 3rd party game. If sales of this game go through the roof it could have a very positive affect on WiiU and Nintendo in general. It will prove that this kind of mature content will sell on WiiU and force 3rd party devs to really innovate with the control system. If the game fails you will get the same old Nintendo is for kiddies, mature games dont sell etc, then we may see another Wii scenario whre 3rd party devs will port for the system, but wont put any real effort into unique games. So what are your thoughts? do Nintendo's new appeal to the hardcore approach hinge on the success of this game?

It's not only ZombiU, there is Mass Effect, Batman, AC II, etc. Even if most games are ports, they need to sell well in order for third party to even consider making new games for the Wii U. I see the GamePad kinda like the Wiimote, Nintendo and some other few other devs will be the ones that use it in really unique ways. The other will just put a map or inventory screen and call it a day (this isn't necessarily a bad thing, but we'll see this in almost every Wii U game, kinda like the DS/3DS).

I do agree that ZombiU will be a big part of the future third party support for the system, but if it sells a lot (let's say 2m) that doesn't mean other developers will jump right in. It will help, but it's not guarantee.

Yes, and the importance of ZombiU even goes a bit further than most other 3rd party offerings.

Obviously games like Batman and Mass Effect 3 will likely debut to modest sales due to the fact that they're late. Assassin's Creed 3 and COD:BO2 are also available on PS360/PC, which have huge install bases already, and games like Rayman and Scribblenauts should be right at home on a Nintendo console.

What makes ZombiU so unique is that it's both a mature-rated game AND completely exclusive to Nintendo's new console; anyone who wants to play it must buy a WiiU.

Here's hoping it does well, as it certainly seems to be deserving of it.

Lets just hope it is a polished game, because Red Steel appeared to be very promising on the original Wii (also by the same company) but in the end it was nothing but a fantastic idea and concept, let down by poor execution, probably due to being rushed to meet a launch day release. First impressions count and sales of its sequel prove this, despite being a much superior game.

ZombieU might just be the most over hyped game to come from Nintendo Lets be honest if this game was released on ps3 or xbox the Nintendo fanboy would be scream oh look another survival shooter. It's the same kind of game Ninty fanboys have been makeing fun of Xbox and ps3 gamers for playing in the past. I'm sick of hearing about it. it may or not be a good game when it finally arrives, but it's nothing ground breaking so lets give it a rest already.

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.

Well for one the controls make it instantly stand out. The main objective of the game is to basically survive for as long as possible. If you die you then take the role of another character, hunt down your former infected character, so you can kill him and obtain your survival pack. I wouldnt say it is being overhyped, i think people are excited by the potential of this game, it is a little different and if it is executed correctly then yes, we could have a game that may have a positive slant on the survival horror genre. Then againit could turn out to be a disappointment...lets hope not

What's wrong with hyping the game? ZombiU have gotten a lot of positive comments from a lot of people, thus comes all the hype. This can be consider a major tittle for the Wii U which uses the GamePad better than all other launch tittles (even more than Nintendo).

And the fanboy argument it's completely invalid, the same can be applied for all 3 fanboys. MS fanboys over hyping Halo 4 and Sony fanboys over hyping The Last of Us. In the end it's pretty much the same.

+1

ZombiU looks great but I really worry it will just be a repeat of Red Steel. Let's be honest guys, most launch IPs suck. I'd rather assume it is a bad game and get a pleasent suprise when it's not than expect wonders only to be let down.

So we are not allowd to be excited for a game?

On topic

If ZombiU does sell well, i would expect a better effort from 3rd parties to bring games to the wii u. Well at least from ubisoft. I think nintendo needs to land the grand theft auto 5 for the Wii u, in my oppinion this is probably the most important 3rd party game for nintendo.

Bet with ninjablade:

Ninjablade wins if the next 5 multiplat on the wii u are inferior to the 360 version.

I win if one of the 5 mulitplats are on par or superior on the Wii U.

ZombiU is probably the number 1 reason to own a Wii U at launch. its very important that this game succeeds.
