Forums - Microsoft - 8 reasons why the Xbox 720 will be called Infinity.

1. They want to link the Xbox range with Windows 8 and infinity looks like at 8 on its side.

2. It fits with the branding idea of offering 'unlimited' entertainment. They've already used this to describe the 360 so they're obviously thinking about it.

3. It has been seen on development kit software.

4. It is two circles (360) put together. It looks like the Xbox 720.

5. They are likely to offer cloud gaming at some point, which effectively makes the Xbox Infinity an infinitely extensible system.

6. It is an easy brand to flash on advertisements. They can hype it to infinity.

7. Noone else is using the symbol. It represents infinite possibilities, I.E. Apps as well as games and music and video.

8. The system seems to be using groups of 8 as it's design target if the rumours are true. 64MB of embedded RAM, 8 cores and 8 Gigabytes of RAM are rumoured as specs and each are divisible by 8.

6 and 7 are invalid points as that would apply to technically anyone. Those were clearly shoehorned in to hit the magical "8" number. Booo and hisssss, I say.

1, 2, & 5. Those I believe are the biggest reasons.

They are still reasons and reasons count for numbers and the numbers count to 8.

The problem with using Infinity is what does Microsoft call the Xbox after that? Infinity + 1? I'm sure they could use it as a code name or something internally, but not as a product name. Some good arguments though,

Only Sony has used numbers with their consoles.

PS -> PS2 -> PS3 -> PS4?

NES -> SNES -> N64 ->GC -> Wii -> Wii U -> ?

Xbox -> Xbox 360 -> Xbox Infinity -> Xbox ?

Given the length of generations they'll have 5-8 years to come up with a new name. Also it may indeed be the last Xbox console ever released before everything moves to the cloud and all you need is a basic $100 Apple TV style device.

Actually, there is a 9th reason:

9.  Infinity is how long it will seem before your subscription-based contract is paid off in order to retail the console for a mass-market price.  :P

I like this list and I also like that it has eight entries.

Age of Empires 2 is the greatest game Microsoft has ever released and taunt number 8 is All Hail King of the Losers! Whereas Taunt 9 is Booooooo:

It therefore goes without saying that All Hail King of the Losers is the ultimate taunt which described Microsofts Xbox efforts.

me from 2010 http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=3386602 --and it wasn't the first time I called it that. I think I first called it the Infinty (or Infiniti) in 2008. Google, don't fail me now!

I also said that there would be an Uncharted racing game before Uncharted 2 even launched. That's how d21lewis do.
