you're right, doesn't appear to have more press releases since.

the taiwanese media reported on 4-16 about the deal, which is one day after 4-15, the day that company (fuh-yuan) had a press release annoucing the new manufacturing center and IPO information.

in general, taiwanese and hong kong media aren't very reliable, so this could be completely fake.

1) TDK is in the Blu-ray camp

2) HD-DVD has sold only 100,000 units in the US, why would wal-mart order 2,000,000 units?

either way, without more releases, file this under "unreliable taiwanese media" file.

EDIT: supposedly the picture is the picture of the company's CEO holding the insides of their low-cost HD-DVD player.  but taiwanese media could be unreliable, so don't know for sure. 

I am pretty sure Microsoft fans are already saying that. The fact is if you want a PS3 you want a PS3. The price may hold you away , but eventually the price will drop and more games will be out. If you wanted a PS3 and settled for a 360 because the graphics are close you should have waited. So buy thtat 360 and a Blu-ray player and see if MGS4 or God of war III play on it even after you smash em' together. The sony hate stems from the price of the PS3 being outside of what people are comfortable paying. 

Cheap HD DVD players from China will come anyway later this year, whether or not this Wal-Mart story is true. $299 seems a bit too high to me, though, in order to reach the masses.

 By te time that happens, PS3 will be cheaper already...

 All the negativity about the PS3 started bubbling after the price was announced, usually people hate on another console when they decide to get only one console and can't afford the others...

Apparently China also wants in on the high-def DVD market.  Apparently they are developing their own HD DVD system.

Hmm.  So you have blu-ray, HD-DVD, and whatever this chinese system.

The one this taiwanese company could be making this chinese system. 

China and Taiwan= not the best of friends lol

I wonder what PS3 prices will be when BR becomes 100-200$...
