Forums - Gaming - Who is going to win this holiday? PS3 or WiiU?

Pros for Wii U: 2D Mario, new console vibe
Cons: Supply constraint

Pros for PS3: Super Slim
Cons: few to no killer apps this holiday

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

That is true with Halo. I have no idea how many consoles it will sell, but it will be a bunch. But how long will that go on? Isn't it coming out a few weeks before black friday? After a few weeks there will be bigger and better things. I am sure it will still sell like what I hear hot cakes sell like throughout the holiday season, but that big initial push could be gone. I have not looked at the pre-orders in weeks but I can only imagine they are piling up already.

Halo 3 pre-orders top 4 million? | Joystiq

According to VGchartz halo 4 is at 700 thousand something. I am not a microsoft or Sony expert so I do not know how good or bad that is, but it seems that it is not where it should be.

Never heard of nike game. Also I have no nike stores around me as far as I know.

but those 4 million is worldwide right? otherwise it should have sold 10-15 million first week or something like that^^ (edit: npd said 3.3 million sold haloo 3's in the first 12 days on sale in u.s.)

i don't know about the sales halo 4 will generate but i'm sure it will sell the amount of console i mentioned. we won't really have a chance to see how many consoles it sold because it releases so late in the year with increasing console sales but if reach sold so many consoles in september, i'm sure halo 4 will do  the same.

but let's stop to derail this thread now^^

On the topic of Halo 4 as a "system seller" ...

While there will (no doubt) be an increase in sales associated with this title, I'm doubtful that it will be very long lasting because there have already been many Halo titles released for the XBox 360. Between Halo 3, Halo Reach, and Halo ODST I'm pretty sure that most people who are interested in the Halo franchise already own an XBox 360.

sure but do you know how many halo fans will buy a new 360 just because it's a halo 360? i think many of those sales will go to them.

Halo 4 is significantly undertracked first of all. As is COD and AC

Secondly MS will win holidays simply because it will dominate NA which is where the majority of holiday salesbis generated. Wii U could beat it if Nintendo can ship enough

I believe the Wii U will sell very well over the holidays, I don't think it will be much of a competition.

Only a very small percentage of fans of any game would buy a second console ...

Most likely, the driver for existing Halo fans to buy an XBox 360 for Halo 4 would be that they no longer own a working XBox 360 to play Halo 4 on; whether that is because their old one is broken, they sold it, or they don't have access to it anymore (potentially, they had a roomate or sibling who moved out and took the system or something).

Most Halo branded XBox 360 systems will be sold to people who are buying their first XBox 360 and think it is a deal to buy a system and get one of the best games of the year for "free".

Although I do find it interesting to see people argue that gamers will buy additional systems to get absolutely no new games or improvements to existing games while other people will argue that these same games wouldn't ever buy a Wii U because they don't offer enough of an improvement or enough new games. Personally, I think this demonstrates just how out of touch the "hardcore" is with the mainstream gamer.

360 should win

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

I think even if the WiiU sells out of stock (and I'm banking on the assumption that it will), the PS3 will still beat it only because of stock constraints. That doesn't mean the PS3 will "win". I think its going to be the second choice for a lot of people who won't be able to get a WiiU.

In theory I would completely agree with you; in practice it just never really seems to play out like that.
