There is no doubt in my mind that homosexuality is a genetic condition not only because my own circumstances as a child would make it nearly impossible that nurture was the culprit (there was ZERO positive reinforcement for homosexuality. My parents are Jamaican and most of the time when homosexuality was brought up, something to the effect of murder was brought up. They've definitely become less severe over the years on the subject. Not accepting, but tolerant due to the fact that they work with homosexual people), but also because many studies done point to it being a genetic condition. There are surprising trends when it comes to homosexual men.
There are some kids who from before they can talk you can just tell. I'm not one of them. It took me until I was 13 (depending on who you talk to I took a short time or a long time) to realize and that was after curiosity on the internet gave me a push and broke the floodgate. I had previously thought I was straight, but only because it was what I assumed. Trust me when I say that I had no intention to be gay. It was an extraordinary internal conflict when the realization hit me because I had always regurgitated the negative things my parents had said to about the subject. I struggled with it for a relatively short period, but pretty quickly accepted my predicament (still in the closet though). It was pretty easy for me to come to terms with and understand that I was helpless in this case. There really is nothing positive about being gay other than the possiblilty that you'll become a much more open-minded person or that you feel a bit more free from social norms (as you can see some take this philosophy to extremes), so it being a choice is out of the question. Experimentation is different from actually being a homosexual.
It's come up in conversation with others that homosexuality can result from being raped, living with all, women, etc., but I struggle to see this being the case because of my case and that of every other gay man I've ever talked to. None of the men I'v come into contact with have experienced any of this and range from "He'd beat the shit out of anybody" to "He's pretty obvious".
Whether homosexuality is classified as a genetic disease or not, I really couldn't care less in the end. Honestly, I just want the right to get married to the person of my choosing. I think some gay guys are fighting more for the "marriage" title than the rights in some cases. Call it whatever you want, but I'm a practical guy and I want the tax breaks and other rights that come with a real marrieage. Civil Unions are stillmissing over half the rights aforded to regular couples.
