I think it just shows Steve Jobs was spot on with them. Looks completely pointless, as well as having a poor shape. Reminds me of the Samsung Galaxy Note series, which are really too big to be a proper smartphone (they don't fit in your pocket) but are too small to function as a tablet. Personally would always opt for the proper tablets.

The whole concept to me is flawed. A tablet is essentially a cross between a smartphone and a laptop. The mini iPad is therefore a cross between a smartphone/tablet and a smartphone.

Well the Mini seems overpriced considering the price of the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD. Looks like a fairly pointless addition to the tablet line considering they're placing it in direct competition with Nexus7 & Fire HD but with relatively comparable hardware for a much higher price.

The new iMac looks sweet, I will get one on the next upgrade. Oddly enough the thing that excites me most right now is that iBooks Author 2.0 is supposed to work with LaTeX. Downloading now to check...

I generally agree with you. I think many people use a tablet as a laptop subsitute, and for those people, you need 10" for a good touch keyboard and space for productivity apps.

But there are some people who take their laptops with them everywhere and can't do without them. For those people, carrying another 10" tablet for productivity makes no sense, but an easy to use, lightweight 7" device for reading, browsing and communication might. Not sure iPad Mini is the best device for that, being larger and more expensive than alternatives, but it might be preferable to a Fire or Nexus 7 for somebody already invested in the Apple ecosystem.

The real target of the iPad Mini is the education market. It's more suited to a child's hands, and a little easier on sensitive education budgets, but it has full access to all the software and management tools of the regular iPad. Hence why new versions of iBooks and authoring tools were announced at this event.

In Japan, the price of the 16gb iPad Mini will be 28,880 yen which is less than the price of the 3G Vita (29,800 yen) that comes with no memory card. The price of the new 32gb iPod touch is the same price as the wifi Vita (again no memory card) at 24,800 yen.

im not talking about Japan, the ipad mini will be $320 and a vita is $250 and is superior in tech.

Hardware for which iPad mini is superior to PS Vita:

Storage capacity, screen size, screen resolution, front and back cameras, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LTE, battery life. 

Hardware for which PS Vita is superior to iPad mini:

CPU, GPU (probably), screen density, rear touch pad, number of buttons, number of buttons, number of buttons.

No one knows how much RAM is in the iPad mini yet, but there's a decent chance it's a tie.

Well of course iPad mini has superior tech, ..... wait a minute, ....you meant..... ohhh.

Both PSV and iPads (all of them) are expensive devices.

With the price of a LTE enabled Ipad Mini you can get two Vitas and some games to boot.

Apple has it backwards. iPad's size is perfectly fine. It is iPhone 5 that should've been larger.
More importantly, the better question is if this will this affect the gaming industry or more specifically spell doom for Wii U.
