I was really looking to buy this till that price was announced, ipad 4 seems like a way better choice for an extra $170 now. Anyway, yeah i never liked how blurry ipad 2 seemed either, retina was a good addition to have

Well it looks like they are completely getting rid of the ipad 3rd gen. They are still keeping on with the ipad 2.

It's probably still too expensive to "drop" the price down on it since besides the SoC, facetime camera and lightning connector not much has changed.

I didn't think the ppi on the ipad 2 was too bad. I remember the screen being pretty nice when I looked at it. I used to have an ipad 1, which used the same screen. It was only after I looked at the retina ipad screen that I thought it didn't look as nice.

Ipod touch and this are completely different devices and markets.

They can charge whatever they for the touch as no one else makes anything similar. As long as its lower than the iphone there will be people who buy the touch...


I agree, I don't think Apple would let the price of an iPod dictate the price of an iPad.

More likely is that Apple looked at the cost of the device they wanted to build and added a ~20% profit margin. Profit at $300 was too thin for Apple's tastes, especially if Jobs was right all along and the market for small tablets is weak.

It may be only 1" bigger, but the actual screen area difference is much larger as the 7" is a 16:9 screen and the ipad mini is a 4:3 screen.

Apple never cease to amaze me. Iphone mini is next with 2.7 inch screen for only $500.
