Ipod touch and this are completely different devices and markets.

They can charge whatever they for the touch as no one else makes anything similar. As long as its lower than the iphone there will be people who buy the touch...


I agree, I don't think Apple would let the price of an iPod dictate the price of an iPad.

More likely is that Apple looked at the cost of the device they wanted to build and added a ~20% profit margin. Profit at $300 was too thin for Apple's tastes, especially if Jobs was right all along and the market for small tablets is weak.
