I feel like if the EU existed in the first hald of the last centyrty, there still would of been europeon wars... and without the EU, still wouldn't be wars today.
Really it's more the realiteis of war that's changed then the countries themselves.
Either way, seems like a silly decision. I mean, there are dozens of humanitarians, non violent dissdents and plenty of others that could of eaisly gotten the award.
That said the Nobel Prize comittee has been slowly getting crazier and crazier and crazier.
I mean hell, an American hasn't won a nobel prize in literature since 1993... and after that 14 out of 16 writers who won the prize lived in europe when they were writing the prize they won. (17 now... maybe? Not sure where the new guy was living when writing about the brutalites of China.)
In general they're insolated and can't look beyond they're sharaed groupthink attidues. The EU move was probably done because of all the trouble the EU has had recently with poorer countries having to decide between bailing or not.
Thinking in their own self importance that somehow their award would change the countries minds.
More and more they are having trouble looking beyond europe to recognize ANYTHING (likely why they couldn't name a single real humanitarian to give the award to.
In general, a ridiculious arrogance and lack of perspective has diminished all of the nobel prize greatly.
