Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo's George Harrison was right all along. (RE USA Wii sales by 2011/2012)

I was reading my old threads and came across this news article from May 2007 that I posted here (two threads actually).

Nintendo says Wii will sell as many as 35 million Wii units in the US alone by 2011 or 2012.

Initial Thread (very good read)
My Thread (short but I like my OP and it was locked due to wrong forum)

Well its 2012 and we now know that:

By end of 2011 Wii sold over 38.6m Wii units to US alone, beating PS2s record.
By end of this year, Wii should be over 40m Wii units sold.

wow. Though its interesting that only a few months after launch a major manager in Nintendo gave it a very high sales prediction (that came true) but they still were effectively sold out for another full year. Also, I find it interesting that they picked 2011/2012 to end it when its clearly become the time frame that they are bringing out its successor. I'm thinking they had a next console planned for that time frame all along.

He was actually wrong since it sold more. Great looking back at old threads like that. The discussion seemed more intelligent back then.

It would be great go see the wii u repeat the wii's success. I think it has shot but only time will tell.

johnlucas, the legend came out more correct than Harrison.

@Paul I think it has a shot too, I think Ninty needs a massive start though like the Wii. I think a start with Wii Fit U and Pikmin early this year with the continued success of NSMBU and Nintyland will do fine. If Ninty wants to start big they should go Bayonetta 2 early summer, WiiU Sports late summer or beginning of fall and Mario Kart U for the holidays. Early 2014, Super Smash Bros. 4 and WiiU Play or WiiU Party. Maybe some Animal Crossing and Star Fox remake for the summer. Wii Music 2 and Super Mario Galaxy 3 for the holidays. Early 2015, F Zero remake and a smaller Ninty game ip like Battalion Wars or Metroid. Summer 2015, Mario Party U and the new ip from Miyamoto. Fall/Holiday 2015 new Wii series game or maybe Wii Fit U Plus and Zelda U. 2016 and beyond, Donkey Kong Country Returns 2, Kirby, Super Mario Galaxy 4,

P.S. Thats alot of speculation lol.

You sir, are a good man.

I really hope that someone puts out some good startegy and RTS games that use the game pad really well. It would be cool to see how a command and conquer or empire earth type game would play with it.
