Forums - Sony - Does it make you happy when Sony buys a developer

I'm two-sided on this issue. On one hand, Sony buying a studio may stop it from releasing multiplatform titles, so I feel sorry for those who don't own Sony platforms. On the other hand, Sony buying studios seems to make lots of Sony fans happy, so I'm happy for those Sony fans.

...on a more serious note: If buying a studio also means saving the studio and its employees, I'm happy all around. It's also great if Sony support the studio to create titles of higher quality, making Everyone (well, but those who don't own Sony consoles) happy.

This was a nice post.  A really nice post that I enjoyed reading.  Thank you for posting this, THE1.

Sony needs more Japanese developers that create content with that market in mind.

+ they need is their existing Japanese devs to be more productive.

I own Sony systems, so it definitely doesn't bother me... but it does it make me happy? I guess I'm happy that a company I like gained an asset, but who is publishing the games I play usually doesn't matter to me.

I agree with Proclus. Depends on the studio.

Like when they bought Sucker Punch I was excited. Lots of potential and they already made some great games.
When they close a studio like the Socom devs, I really don't care. They hadn't made a great game in years.

Why would anyone not own a ps3 yet is beyond me. Online is free, console is cheap, tons of first party games to play even if u play 3rd party on other system. PS3 is a good machine even if you ONLY buy it to play 1st party games.

Well, for me it's mainly about the money. As it is now I use my Wii for Nintendo games and my Xbox for Halo and third party titles. I'm not really interested in any franchise outsideof those two consoles, and buying a PS3 to try some new ones seems like too much of a risk to me.
