Isn't that 360 and Dreamcast geek the president of EA sports?

Peter Moore? He does work for EA now, yes, but I don't think he is the president of EA Sports specifically.
Better quality or not, maybe gamers are cluing in that it's silly to buy a slightly updated version of the same game every single year.

Or, since 2k games also didn't grow this year, we've reached a saturation point with traditional sports games.
I expect very slow but steady growth for the genre from here on out, with sales increases slightly outpacing population growth -- 10/15% per decade, on average.

It is remarkable how a person who screwed up the dreamcast and 360 (let's be honest, it made too much of a loss and only exists because of Microsofts unlimited amount of money. If it had the budget of the dreamcast it would have died ages ago.) goes to EA and suddendly they start doing poorly.
Edit: from wiki,
On July 17, 2007, Electronic Arts announced that Peter Moore would be leaving Microsoft to head the sports division at Electronic Arts.[3] Moore reportedly wants to move back to the San Francisco Bay area to live with his family, which is possible with EA. His position as Vice President of Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft will be filled by Don Mattrick.[4]

The thing that always bothered me bout EA sports games was that they take out certain things in games, then when they bring it back the following year, they treat it like it's a brand new feature. I can't fraking stand that, I hate EA.
They should really consider selling a sports title every other year in stores and then allow updates for the older game to get the new roster etc for the year there is no new game on shelf for a small fee.
Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.
While sales of EA sports titles has dropped this year. The quality of EA Sports products has been diminishing for years. The last time I purchased NBA Live was in 2003 on the PS2. Once the 2K Sports franchise started I began buying them. Madden has been a mess for about 4 years now. EA thinks that since it has no competition on the Football end that Madden will sell like hotcakes. I think what really hurt EA was losing the MLB license to 2K. I my opinion MVP Baseball with the MLB license was the best baseball game at the time. I will say the 2K series has made huge improvements since then.
EA needs better quality sports games. New features not only a roster and graphics upgrade every year.
