AT&T announces Samsung and ASUS Windows 8 tablets

AT&T has today announced two Windows 8 tablets the carrier will be stocking for the 2012 holiday season - the ASUS VivoTab RT and Samsung ATIV Smart PC. As the name of the former suggests, the ASUS will be running Windows RT where as the Samsung tablet will be powering the full version of Windows 8 Pro (the ATIV Smart PC Pro also sports Windows 8 Pro).

The ASUS VivoTab RT (pictured right) is a quad-core 4G LTE Windows 8 tablet, sporting a 10.1" screen with ASUS TruVivid technology. Shipping with 32GB storage, the tablet will be able to hold multimedia and other files with ease while accompanying the owner on his (or her) travels. NVIDIA's quad-core Tegra 3 IGP is on-board to provide enough processing power for graphics and 4G LET ensures quick and responsive web activities.

The Samsung ATIV Smart PC (pictured left) on the other hand will featured an 11.6" HD display with an Intel Atom dual-core CPU. 64GB storage boasts capacity to store even the larger collections of documents, music and media. As well as the ASUS tablet, the Samsung ATIV Smart PC also supports LTE 4G networking.

AT&T notes that it will be the only US carrier to stock both Windows 8 tablets through the upcoming holiday season. Both will ship with review versions of Microsoft Office 2013 and will have detachable dock / keyboard accessories. No word on pricing as-of-yet. Will you be looking to purchase one of these Windows 8 tablets?

I really wish Nokia made one... I really like their phones and will probably get the Lumia 920 next spring.

Agreed. A nokia tablet would be really cool. As an Android user, however, I'm partial to HTC and Samsung, so I'd be interested to see them take on Windows 8 Tablets as well. I'm a broke college kid, so I'd have to voice moral support only, which really kills me because these tabs look really cool with the detachable keyboard.

And am I the only one who's really been pleasantly surprised by Microsoft over the last year or so? They've really stuck to reinventing themselves. Ironic, considering 5 years ago they were the old out of touch company with Windows Vista, Zune, and failing Xbox 360s, but now they're going toe to toe with Apple in terms of their innovation. Good to see that they've come a long way, and hope it translates to monetary success.

No you're not the only one, I'm also pleased to see the direction Microsoft is taking. Windows 8 will be big I believe, eventhough some will say its not good for devs and gaming but we'll see. Their approach in the tablet and phone space is really a change to the old and tired icon based UIs from Apple and Google.

We'll see but since I got my Lumia 800 I'm a little sold already and the 360's new dash is way better than it was, everything is well organized and I have no need for cable anymore as the shows that aren't available on 360 either I don't need them or I can watch them on the internet... just hope they add video streaming to internet explorer 360 then I will have a complete cable offering wayyyyy cheaper. So much for people saying Live is too expensive hell I don't pay for cable so it's an economy for me actually.

I've also been very curious with Windows Phone. The Lumia 920 looks really nice. I currently have an HTC Evo 3D from Virgin Mobile. It's nice too, but I'm always curious about other tech. Does Windows Phone have a good app selection?

The app selection is not as big as android/ios but is growing quite fast. There are similiar or same apps available in the marketplace as the big two. As of yet windows doesn't get most of the games and other apps ported to them but that would change fast if they increase marketshare after the launch of windows phone 8. I am also interested in Lumia 820 and 920. Heck maybe Htc 8X and S as i am thinking of buying them off contract. Don't want to spend 60 bucks with companies just to get these phones for cheap for 3 years. Yes, Canada has 3 year contracts. *sigh*

OT: The tablets look quite nice. Bit more expensive than base ipad but they come with much stronger specs and versatility.

Big fan of the optional keyboard configuration

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

let the tablket race begin. Will be intersting to see how they fare against android and ios. I hope they are a success
