Forums - General - A question for all you programmers out there

How long was the longest program you have written from scratch?  I am just curious because I am doing a school project and I am nearing 1000 lines of code (currently at 932, but I know 1000 will be passed soon).  The only reason I ask is because until this point the longest code I've written was maybe 350 and I had about a month and a half to do that.  My current professor gave us two weeks to do this like it was no big deal.  I know there's programs out there that probably have over 10,000 lines of code, but I am just curious what others have done and in what language.  I've done mine in C.

Jurassic Park had over a million lines of code, and Nedry could debug it in just hours.

I think I was nearing the 64K mark with a few projects at work, but we don't get close to that now, mostly because of some sweet little shortcuts we now use thanks to LINQ.

When you work in real-life projects in teams with more than 25 programmers it is common to have projects with more than 1 million lines of code. But this not a issue since we use version systems to avoid code conflicts and unit tests to avid bug introductions.

They're pretty short at the begging, but after a while they get extremely large, mostly because I program using OOP (Object-oriented programming), so it's hard to keep track of the lines of code. Some of my school projects were about 30,000 lines of code, I once had to programmed a space invaders type game in Java using threads. I also had some school projects in C# and C++.

But don't worry, when you start working you'll have 700k+ lines of code ;)

If I could program like you guys I would be a criminal.

Hacking shit.

From scratch, by myself, that I've completed? About 5,000 lines. That was in C-sharp

The system I'm working on at the moment has millions of lines of code, the system was started on a decade ago.... and connects into a shit tonne of other, large systems. This is written in several languages, primarily Java... with HTML/JSP on the front end.

My android games tend to run around 12,000-15,000, these are in java

Some of the projects I have done for my day job have been in the 20,000 range, most of these are in C# with some C++
