Forums - Gaming - New Console Syndrome- Gotta buy 'em all!

Does anyone else or has anyone else besides me ever bought hardware specifically because it's new hardware, not for launch games, but something new and interesting to play games on? It's what has allmost convinced me I want to buy a WiiU, even though I don't particularily want any games on it at launch. I am getting tired of this gen and for me playing and game on new hardware seems really enticing.

Many thoughts rush through my head, how is it cooler than its predecessor? What new ways are there to play, and what other hidden goodies are there to discover when the box is open, this is the same reason I bought a Vita and 3DS at launch; sucker that I am :P

So how about you guys!

The only console I bought near launch was the wii, I got caught up in all the hype and so did all my friends, then a year or so later the excitement and interest faded and the wii went in the cupboard. Once I got my PS3 I rarely even looked at the wii again.

I don't think I'll buy a console at launch again, Instead I'll wait around and make an educated decision on my purchase.

Nope. I'm pretty much a Nintendo and Playstation gamer. I don't get the urge to buy anything from other manufacturers. The Vita and the 3DS are the only consoles Ive purchased in the same year they have came out. All other consoles (All Nintendo and Playstation consoles) I have bought at least a year after they have launched.

I haven't really been dedicated to Nintendo this gen and next unlike previous gens; I have a Wii but no DS (used to, sold it). I do have a 3DS which rarely gets used; and I'm on the fence about the WiiU.

I do have a Vita, which I think I should have waited for a pricecut first. I will likely get a PS4 if it comes out, but likely a year after launch.

I really love new hardware for some reason. I wish i could afford every console just to collect them

I'm also a sucker. I recently decided to get a 3DS instead of a Wii U this winter but already I am having second thoughts. There is just something special about buying things on launch day.

Got a DS at launch. I bought my 360 the summer of 2006 and got my Wii that Christmas at launch. I even payed extra to get my 3G Vita before its launch. Price is the only reason I stay away from a system launch; ie the PSP, PS3, and 3DS. With the Wii U being fairly priced with no looming price cut I'll be surprised if I don't pick it up just for the sake of it.

I'm a sucker too... I've always had a problem. It's started with Super Nintendo. I don't remember how close to launch i got it, because it was so long ago. But It was soon after. like Christmas, and had an ass load of games, where my first ever RPG was blue lagoon and that damn rocket launcher that only played one set of mini games. Then 64, PS1 Dreamcast, PS2, PSP, Xbox360, PS3, Vita and now Wiiu.... I need help. :(

I can't afford WiiU or Vita or Ouya right now, but mark my words - I will have at least two of time by the end of 2013.
Must buy everything...

I don't have that problem. I'm not the type that has to run and bye everything the second it comes out. I always wait until the hype dies down, then I make my move. Every game system I bought,I've waited at least 6 months, before I bought it. I think I got my ps3 8 months after it came out.

I bought the 360 as soon as it became normally available because it was the first HD console, although none of the launch games really interested me. Bought the ps3 out of town to watch the blu-ray movies I had already bought. Wii for Zelda TP, which I could just as easily have played on the GC.
Yeah I have that problem.

I'll try to resist longer this time, I already have HD games and a blu-ray player. That said, WiiU will be bought as soon as I see it available in a store :/
